@SincererLove sorry, misunderstood your original post. I agree with your point
Wowww my score is SO LOW compared to everyone in this thread. Is it a different test for internationals? I found mine super hard.
Does anybody know if colleges will be able to see the subscores for each section. For example, will they only see that I got a 700 in Reading and Writing or will they also see that I got a 38/40 for Reading and 32/40 for Writing.
Thanks in advance!
@SincererLove 1500 PSAT, 1540 SAT. Was hoping for better SAT.
@Fangirl1999 Oh wow, thanks for sharing, I guess questions are weighted differently now?
No they are not weighted differently. On the same test date, they give different versions of the test, which may be scaled differently. Each wrong answer on any test is equal to any other wrong answer, its just when they scale the test, a -4 in math may result in a different grade vs a -4 in math on another version. The scaling is based on question difficulty.
Does anyone mind sharing what test prep they used? Other than Khan Academy is there anything else that helped any of you guys?
@marvin100 there are other two kids in S’s class who took SAT in May and both scored above 1400. I guess one got (720 in english, 740 in math). all three kids are taking advanced math in high school. that’s what I know.
@zindabad I don’t think CTY has released the new SAT score requirement for their programs yet. we have to wait until fall.
I got a 1520 (720 WCR 800 MATH) and have a 4.58 weighted GPA. Do you guys think I should retake the new SAT to raise it or is it a waste of time because I have a high GPA. Im trying to get into Caltech MIT UC Berk and Stanford btw.
Im class of 2017 and I have to write college essays too…
Guys, just take the ACT- it’s proven. the SAT has no solid validity at this point.
@Jkmsnj Thanks. I sent my scores in, hoping it will be good enough to qualify for SET with updated requirement. I signed up to take SAT right before turning 13 otherwise the criteria goes up by 10 points for each month after your 13th b-day. Too bad CTY won’t except ACT score from Duke tips program.
I wouldn’t discourage students from taking the SAT completely. There’s a reason we have both the SAT and ACT as options; at the end of the day, they’re both entirely different tests in terms of timing, pacing, etc. I’m a lot better at the SAT than the ACT, and I wish I found that out earlier. If I were a younger student, I’d try out both tests before focusing on just one.
@zindabad have you ever taken any CTY courses before? i took a look at those online courses and they look quiet expensive. not sure it’s worth taking them. btw, any suggestion for writing course(s)? S took SAT and ACT with no essays.
@marsha.ss, you have to take SAT to verify NMSF. D is of the mind of not letting taking tests become EC, so she did SAT once and out. She did a free comparison and her ACT/SAT is very close.
No extra help for her. Borrowed books from library and whatever she can find online. She scoffs at the people using tutors or test prep.
I used to think that ACT was much better for achieving the higher score solely because they didn’t penalize for wrong answers. Now with the new SAT, it makes everything better. In addition, I never really studied for any of the tests so since the ACT doesn’t really require practice, I was able to do much better than the old SAT (35). One thing I’ve noticed though is that retaking the test does work even without studying. Went from 1500 to 1580 SAT and 34 to 35 ACT just by being familiar with the test, no studying required.
Colleges that do score choice would only look at the highest essay score, right? Because the essay is a separate section now?
Also, would colleges that do not require the essay (ex: Columbia) still take the essay score into consideration?
I’m Class of 2017 and scored 1500 on the PSAT, so I decided to take the new SAT. I scored 1550 on the May SAT with 8/7/7 essay, and 1600 on the June SAT but my essay score was HORRIBLE for some reason (no clue what happened this time??). I’m hoping that superscoring will allow my Math/EBRW score from June to be combined with my Essay score from May.
tl;dr For a school that doesn’t even require the essay but offers score choice, should I bother sending my May score just so that they can see the higher essay score (the downside is seeing my lower EBRW and math score from May)?
@SincererLove I got 4 wrong on reading as well, but I still got a 37/40 on the section somehow. Two wrong on writing got me a 38 and one wrong on math got me a 40
@gsw1999 Which passages did you have? Ben franklin?
