June 8th ACT Reading

That’s the problem i dont remember the question lol ill PM if later on if i have an epiphany

What was the question to the Sunday one?

I don’t know that one either. It could have been when they went out into the town.

It was something about the father doing something

Ok, I don’t think this has been covered yet. Do any of you remember the question in the native american passage talking about the primary flower or something planted in the mall? Sorry I really don’t remember the question but I know one of the answers was “tulips” because that’s what I put.

Yeah that’s what I put. The tulips made it look neat.

The father doing something… Is that in the 1st passage?

i dont remember a “sunday” can u elaborate the question somehow? and yes tulips was the answer because how neat the plants looked like or something of the sort

for the flower one wasn’t one of the answers that it disproved previous ideas about the flowers being extinct? or something along those lines

I don’t think so Omaha

@Lookingup

are you sure? i feel like both answers make sense for that paragraph - it did sorta disprove the extinction due to it being found. however, doesnt this also prove that the natives were more knowledgable? idk

in the previous passage it stated how it was thought that the flowers were to be very close to extinction only about 8 left. But this passage stated that Homes and Francisco found a whole area of them. so wouldn’t that support that?

I thought it showed that the natives were knowledgable. That was the main point of the paragraph.

yes that was the later part of the second main idea that elders were knowledgeable.

it doesn’t prove they were more knowledgeable. The answer was that it was there a long time ago and the people were taking care of it.

so what is the answer? I feel that there is pretty good evidence for both. But I don’t see the natives knowledge being that strong.

So what is the exact question?

yea it does say that but it doesn’t answer the question Randomguy2

I think the main thing to see here is the fact that the question asked what is the FOCUS of the paragraph.

The fact that they found the plants destroyed their hypothesis that they were extinct, showing that the elders were knowledgable which she emphasized quite a bit.

That’s the tricky part about the reading section. They ask for the MAIN purpose of the paragraph. I don’t believe it was to show that it was disproving extinction because first of all, there were 8 species left and to introduce an idea like that is sort of irrelevant to the topic honestly.

Many times, reading questions ask for a more meaningful and significant answer. For example, you are stuck between two answers such as Clyde didn’t like the cake because it was white or Clyde didn’t like the cake because the structure of it reminded him of his dog’s death (lol idk). The answer is generally the answer with a more significant and deeper meaning.

Of course, this does not apply to every question, but when analyzing the main purpose of a passage, I think it applies more often.
I’m sorry that I can’t provide a better explanation, I need to read the passage again haha.
