June ACT English Section

haha, no, not unless you buy the report thing.

jallidalli, hahah why do you buy it? like whats the incentive?

I like to re-do the problems (especially the math ones) that I got wrong to practice (I’m planning on taking it again in september). I think it’s nice to have if you’re planning on taking it again because you can’t rely 100% on what CC tells you is the right answer for a question.

Lol how often is CC wrong?

^ this is true. and that’s a good point. what were the curves last time for -1 in each section, do you remember?

hahaha well i don’t know, it seems especially on this thread that people are never 100% in agreement about the answer to some questions

Hold on, I’ll go get my paper (the curves were pretty harsh lol). But yeah, it’s really good. It also tells you what you put for each question (or if it was read as a multiple answer). And idk, I didn’t really come on here to check on the ACT last time because I was really depressed abt it lol (I accidentally thought the reading was 75 min. and ran out of time).

^hahaa aww that’d suck! i actually had time to finish my reading this time; i was like, am i going over…? hahhaa. reading SHOULD be 75 min though! and thanks!

Ouch that sucks.

FWIW, I’ll give you guys a highlight of my English subscores from my past two ACTs:

June 2010:

Usage/Mechanics - 18
Rhetorical Skills - 15

English Score - 34

September 2010:

Usage/Mechanics - 18
Rhetorical Skills - 18

English Score - 35

It seems to me the curve was more generous in June last year than in September. Thoughts?

^ looks like it. good job on those scores btw! what were your composites?

It was:

Reading:-1=34
Science: -1=34
Math: -1=35
English: -1=35

And apparently, you can also ask for your answer document and a copy of your essay (I just noticed this when I looked at the curves in the booklet they gave me). You learn something new everyday lol!

WHAT? was that test unusually easy?

-1 is a 34 for READING and SCIENCE? those two are the toughest! ugh, it BETTER be more lenient this time, haha…i have a feeling it will be. it seemed like just about every section seemed harder than usual for most CCers, and these are CCers we’re talking about…

I think it will be. I’m guessing they flip-flop b/t easy and hard. I came in mentally prepared that this would be a really hard test. I’m guessing September’s will be easier.

@liv4physicz

My composites were 32 in June 2010 and 33 in September 2010.

are you a junior?

One quick question that was asked but not answered well, if at all:

The significance of the athletes and their role in media was the question. I said that it did NOT fit, because when reading it, the passage that was inserted hypothetically was awkward and detracted from the past-tense point of view. The passage was talking about the boxing and what not, and then it says “And today athletic events are popular in the media” or whatever it was.

Anyone remember it more clearly?

I just finished my junior year.

@CentralFC

I think I chose to not insert that into the passage.

Septembers better be ****ing easier, because for me that Math section and Science were KILLERS!!! :(

yeah i said that it did not fit and should not be included in the passage. i dont remember what the two reasons were so i dont remember which one i put, but im positive that it did not belong in the passage

^sameeeeee
