I live in NJ and I am very interested in chemistry. Unfortunately I did not find out about gov school until it was too late and I never bothered applying to the most prestigious programs like RSI, as I have no chance. I tried emailing about a dozen Princeton and Rutgers professors, asking about research opportunities but most of them did not reply and those that did said it would be impossible. Is there anything I can do over the summer that looks good for college and maybe even relates to my interest in chem? I'm really desperate and time is running out...

*note- I have almost no volunteering, so I would be open to volunteering suggestions if nothing else good seems feasible.

Steps to a great summer:
- No freaking out.
- Don’t think that you have to do stuff to impress college adcoms.
- Volunteering is fun. I like packaging food at food banks, which are always open for help. Also, check with local hospitals to see if they are accepting volunteers.

The problem I am currently encountering is that most medical volunteering services require applicants to be at a minimum age of 16, which means I must wait an additional 2 years to be considered.
As for food banks, homeless shelters, and nursing homes, the community I reside in has yet to establish such facilities, so those options are basically out of the question.

United Way seems pretty cool. Since you’re interested in chem and that kind of things, google Garden State Labs. it may be accesible depending on where you live in Jersey.

If you are good at math, PROMYS is still open.

Academics7, establish one, of course.
