Schools I plan on applying to (actually I have no idea about colleges, but uh):
Brown
Columbia
Rice
Carleton
Cornell
Washington University at St. Louis
Tufts
University of Maryland, College Park
Northwestern
Swarthmore
Um, my parents want me to apply to Yale, Stanford, MIT, and the like, but, well, we'll see.

I don't know much about college. Any recommendations based on my interests? I think Brown's my first choice at the moment.

Based on your interests, I'd recommend that you focus on liberal arts schools as you seem to have done for the most part (MIT might not be as good a fit for you if you don't want to go for science or math so much). As for chances... ratings are: unlikely reach, reach, semi-reach, good fit, likely safety.

Brown... SEMI-REACH.
Columbia... REACH.
Rice... SEMI-REACH.
Carleton... GOOD FIT.
Cornell... SEMI-REACH.
Washington University at St. Louis... SEMI-REACH.
Tufts... GOOD FIT.
University of Maryland, College Park... LIKELY.
Northwestern... GOOD FIT.
Swarthmore... SEMI-REACH.
Yale... REACH.
Stanford... REACH.
MIT... UNLIKELY REACH.

Don't retake your SAT's. It's just a waste; your scores are high enough. Top schools don't like it when people with already high SAT scores take it again just to get a perfect score. Top schools want leadership and talent and community service.

Brown: reach
Columbia: reach
Rice: high match
Carleton: match
Cornell: reach
Washington University at St. Louis: low reach
Tufts: match
University of Maryland, College Park: safety
Northwestern: match
Swarthmore: reach
Yale: high reach
Stanford: reach
MIT: high reach

You can improve your app. by getting more leadership positions. Your scores are fine. Good luck.

Thanks for the replies. Are there any recommendations for smaller schools with good linguistics/journalism/architecture programs?

middleberry for linguistics...
