Junior concerned about PSAT score and future college

HI!

I'm currently a junior in high school. I plan on applying to the major film schools in California and New York, but after discovering my relatively weak PSAT score, I'm concerned my potential as an applicant will be severely diminished.

Here are my stats:

3.8 GPA/3.7 unweighted

Only 3 APs offered at my school and I'm taking two (the other is Cal).
No honors offered.
1 college class
Completed 1 non A-G class online and enrolled in an independent math program.

Scores:

~150 PSAT

23% math, 70% reading, 60% critical

I'm in Geo/A2 as of now and have always had a tough time with math. I know the PSAT only goes up to A2, and I hear the SAT borders trig...so naturally I'm kind of anxious.

Schools I want to apply to:

USC (Fat chance)
Chapman (#1)
Loyola Marymount
UCLA (I know)
and possibly NYU but I know I'm not getting in.
Pepperdine (#3 choice)

I don't do a lot of e.c aside from a few clubs and charities [school only has 3] but have created short films and volunteered at several major film festivals.

I was pretty disappointed about my English score, as I consider that to be my strongest subject.

Many of my friends have taken the PSAT several times (some since 8th grade) so I feel a little disadvantaged, but I know that isn't a really good excuse.

Questions:

What are my chances at the above colleges?

I plan on enrolling in one-on-one SAT prep during the summer, but how far will that improve my score? My PSAT projects a 1400 SAT, I'd need at least 1n 1800 to be considered at any of those schools. Can I truly expect a 400+ point increase?

And lastly - how many times can I take the SAT? I know the SAT sign up is weird. If I want to take it more than twice, don't I need to apply before my first exam?

I just need some encouragement and possibly a realistic opinion.

thanks so much!!!!!!

thanks!

PSATs don’t mean a thing. Practice and do prep, and I’m sure you’ll improve.

I went from a 160 PSAT score soph year to a 2040 final SAT score. 400 point improvements are hard to do, but they are defnitiley possible. Don’t give up.

Do not worry about your PSAT score. I got a 156 on mine, and later got a 2350 on my real SAT.

don’t worry about it too much, just continue working hard for the next year and a half, you’re score will improve…mine went from a 177 sophmore year (62- C.R., 61- Math, 54 writing) to a 2170 junior year (C.R.- 750, Math-720, writing-700)

The thing is, you need to keep working on it to improve your score…for critical reading I suggest reading books classical books (Helps get your mind get ready for the passages found on the sats, and psats)…for math the more practice/problems you do, the better you get at it
