Junior in HS

You are not starting to soon. Get to know your congressional aide who will be filtering the nomination applications. Set up a meeting with the aide sometime next spring or summer. Also set up a tour of the academy and other academies that you are going to apply to. It is really improtant for your son or daughter to show upward movement during the junior year. Sports is great, but it is about academics. My son took algebra II during summer school to bring his grade up from a B to an A. It is this kind of second effort that will help. Take the SATs and ACT as many times as needed to bring up your scores, it pays off big time. Also get to know a local alumni or advisor that can act as an advisor and a mentor to your child. They can also help with contacts for the application process. This is a ton of work and a two year commitment, make sure that this is the direction that your child not you want to work towards. Do not take the nomination process lightly, this is serious stuff and will take a lot of preperation work. Mock interviews are a vital, have an experienced interviewer work with your child. Most importantly, dont let anyone tell you that you will never make it. Believe in you child and yourself. Best of luck.

I've been in my school's cross country and wrestling team for both my freshman and sophmore year and volleyball during my sophmore year only.

Hi. I;m currently a senior in HS and previously I have been focusing more on USNA. I am applying to USNA USMA USAFA and USMMA, but recently, after having done more research on USMMA, the Academy has really caught my interest. I am very interested in pursuing an engineering major and also just the whole Sea Year curriculum has converted me into a USMMA enthusiast. I have recieved the application but I have not sent any in yet. I read that deadline for Early Decision for USMMA is Nov 1, but I also know that the Academies almost always expect the applications to be turned in muucchh earlier than the deadlines. So my question is is it too late for me to finish the applications and turn them in?

The application deadline is March 1. But get it in early. You won't believe how the stress level goes down when you get in. For both you and your parents. :)

Additionally, you need to watch the deadline imposed by your Congressman. Here in the 7th District of Virginia, our Congressman wants all nomination requests in by 6 October of the students senior year. Obviously this is just one source of nomination, but you have to watch all these deadlines, they sneak up on you.

Zooyorktimes:
My s, who graduated KP this past June, did the same--he had everything done for USNA then found out about USMMA, roughly in this same time frame that you are in. Since he already had the medical/fitness stuff done, the submissions were easy, I think he just filled out everything for USMMA and wrote a new essay. Then he contacted his congressman/senators' offices by phone, since had had already requested nominations to USNA by letter and wanted to add USMMA He followed up on everything to make sure it was received, especially since that anthrax scare occurred right about now in 2001 when he was applying. I think he had to hand-deliver some stuff to the congressman, since they weren't accepting mail for a while (memory is a little fuzzy there since it was 5 years ago).

He didn't get an appointment to USNA but did to USMMA, and now feels it's the best place he could have possibly gone. He is currently sailing as a third officer, but plans to head to grad school in several years. USMMA opened the door to many opportunities that none of us knew about, and as hard as it was he feels it was definitely worth it!

Good luck to you! If you haven't yet visited USMMA, go for their overnight visit when you can!
