Hey y’all! Current sophomore here trying to get some feedback on the courses I want to take next year and the year after. As of right now, I am currently taking:
Math 3 Honors
English 2 Honors
AP European History
Engineering Elective
Chemistry Honors
Volleyball (Sport)
I am planning on dropping my Engineering Elective next year, as it isn’t really the field of study I want to continue once I reach college - I only joined so in a spontaneous decision to be with my friends, as they are all taking it. Next year I’m planning to tackle 4 AP classes along with a sport, multiple ECs/clubs, and a job, so I need some tips on how to be successful.
Junior year I am planning to take:
Pre-Calc Honors
AP English Language
APUSH
AP Stats
AP Chem
Volleyball.
I want to take AP Stats since the career I am considering involves statistics (an economics field of study) and I want to know if it is worth taking at all. After junior year, I plan to end my high school classes with
AP Calc BC
AP English Lit
AP Macro/microeconomics
AP Bio
AP Physics
Volleyball.
How does all of these sound? Do you believe my course list is too extensive, or can it be manageable?
The glaring absence is a foreign language. Even the not very selective 4- year colleges will expect level 2 or 3. If youre aiming for your flagship or top universities, level 4 or AP is preferable.
Would you take AP Physics1 and AP biology together?
I am taking a foreign language course in a college nearby - is that considered okay when it comes to the top universities? My school is known to have a terrible foreign language department, offering only one (Spanish); all the teachers are not exactly what we would say as proficient, so I had my doubts taking it. I have heard from our seniors that it is best to take it either through summer school (just handful of packets) or to take it in a college itself.
Also, yes, I plan to take AP Physics and AP Biology together. Would that prove to be too strenuous or is it doable?
Ok then add it as being in your schedule (you’ll have to do it if you complete a SRAR).
What language and what level will you reach by graduation?
Top colleges WILL really like it because 1° college language courses are notoriously brutal. You cover roughly 2 years of HS FL in one semester, then one year per subsequent semester. So, handle that and you show something they’ll like. 2° it’s a college course, so like all college courses there’s little hand holding, you have to be independent in your learning, etc. Result: it looks good (as long as you do well)
AP Physics1 and AP Bio can be done together indeed.
Your schedule is very good overall.
