My parents want me to go to the Junior Statesman summer school program at Yale. I know that I really want to go because it will help me in many ways, maybe raise my chances of getting into a good college. The only problem is that its competetive.
If any of you have done this program please give me some information about it. Also, is it really tough to get into this program, how can I make my application stand out? BTW I'm a sophmore from CA, my cumulative GPA is ~3.83w.

it's not hard to get into, if you show that you like politics and genuinely have an interest, i'm sure you'll get in. Yeah, i went to the stanford program, and it is amazingly fun, hard (work-load), and interesting learning experience.

I don't know too much about the summer programs, although I've heard great things, but I am an officer in the Junior Statesmen and have been part of the organization for a long time and can tell you that it is one of the most enjoyable experiences of my life.

BTW, as for getting into college, my college essay was about JSA and I got accepted to my first choice school ED. My best EC's came through JSA too as I got my internship through contacts I met through the JSA.
