Junior Year Grades...

Hey guys,

I've been struggling this year, and I have a-'s in like every single one of the (5) ap classes I'm taking. This will bring my year-end UW GPA down to about like a 3.75 (maybe), and my cumulative GPA in high school from a 3.98 to like a 3.9. Will this huge drop in grades my Junior year be really bad for admissions into competitive colleges?

My standardized test scores are good, I have a 2360 SAT and a 2380 SAT II, so I'm not too worried about those. My EC's are pretty good too.

I'm just really concerned about my transcript (with all those a-'s) and the drop in GPA my junior year.

Please tell me what you think!

Thanks

They count A-'s at your school? Man, that’s harsh.

Man, and I’ve always been an A- student, and I thought I did pretty well. You’ll be fine, mate. If you’re special snowflake-y enough to get into an elite school with As, you’ll be special snowflake-y enough to get into an elite school with A-s.

Haha, ok that does make me feel better… But still, that GPA drop…

You have a 2360 and are worried about a handful of A minuses. Look: whether or not you get accepted or rejected at top schools won’t be because of your “huge drop” from 3.98 to 3.9.

You seem to be forgetting your analytical skills here. Really.

Well I always thought grades mattered the most, because like everyone has a’s and like 4.0 gpas… Why would they want an a- student? Lol maybe I’m just paranoid

hpyscm, your question combined with your user name suggests an unhealthy preoccupation with a very narrow range of prestige schools. Just a reminder that students with 4.0s and top test scores get turned down all the time from these schools, and students with a handful of Bs and even a (gasp) C get accepted all the time. Don’t get blind-sided by fixating on minor things (an A-) instead of the important things like what you have to offer a selective school besides smarts.

^I definitely agree with what you just said. It IS unhealthy. It IS pointless. But for some reason I can’t help it. I have other passions though (like violin!), so I’m not completely tunnelvisioned into this college game, but yeah, you’re right. Thank you
