Hello everyone.
I know that many similar questions have been asked and this may just seem repetitive, but I would sincerely appreciate it if someone answers my question. For the past two years of high school, my freshman and sophomore year that is, I’ve ended with all of my final grades as As. This year, my math grade is suffering and I just somehow managed to pull of a B-. My teacher is very challenging, and I don’t want to move down a level, mainly because I feel like I am learning a great deal in this honors math class. However, to maintain the honors level, I must AT LEAST get a B-. As you can see, I’m right on the brink.
In my school, it works like this: We have 4 marking periods, and at the end of each we have a quarterly exam. I total, we have 4 of these and their average is taken to count for a FIFTH marking period average, after which our final grade is calculated based on the avg of all 5 marking periods. My quarterly exams were not good- I earned a 79 in my Math one, and a 70 in Science(I have a 95 in the class). I’m used to As and I very worried that Im lowering my chances of getting into college, although I’m just looking at a competitive state university.
Any advice would be appreciated:)
Many, many, many times.
So 2 things. One is to how to improve your grade, and the second is the impact on college admissions if you fail to do so.
For the first, the obvious first stop is talk to your teacher about extra help. Additionally, for most courses, there are plenty of free online resources.
For the second, if a college rejects you for 2 B’s, it’s unlikely that you would have been admitted with all A’s. So focus less on this and concentrate on bringing your grades up.
Just as an aside, be prepared that you will most likely need to lower your expectations in college.
Thank you very much @skieurope !
I’ve been talking to my teacher and will continue to do so, this time more consistently.
About being used to As, yes I’ll keep in mind to lower my expectations in college.
