Junior Year Schedule Advice? Help!

Here is my junior year schedule for next year:

APUSH
AP English
Algebra/Trig Honors
Chemistry (don’t know if I should take honors or a regular class)

I really don’t know if I should take honors chemistry or regular chemistry next year. I know in regular chemistry, I will get a 95+ average, however, in honors chemistry, I know I will struggle.

Also, I’ve taken one regular class in my freshman year (algebra) and 2 regular classes my sophomore year (geometry & earth science)
*IMPORTANT: they forced me into a regular earth science class this year after being in honors bio my freshman year because they do not offer an honors class.

My current GPA is like a 93-94.

Does taking regular classes affect your chances of getting accepted?
I will like to go to Colgate University.

Colleges weigh strength of schedule (i.e. how many AP and honors classes you took) in your application. For the best chances it would be better to take a more difficult class and get a lower grade than to take an easy class and get an automatic A.

Have you thought about what you want to major in? Look up subject requirements for those programs and then take the most advanced courses in those areas (because like paranoidandroid said, schedule>grade).

You really should be taking more classes.

As mentioned above, candidates should challenge themselves with a full distribution of school courses- as opposed to limiting their number and looking for high marks in courses that are less than challenging.

When I went to HS I had 4 years of foreign language through senior year. Junior year had a course load of 5 plus electives.

By the way, success across such a distribution cannot but help you improve your standardized testing score numbers which further enhances your application!

I suspect you know this intuitively. So speak with your guidance counselor and then so go ahead and move on from your original ideas/plans.

Good luck with your college search!
