(pre-AP) Precalc/trig

Last year I took PreAP Algebra 2 and ended up with a C both semesters. Mainly because my head wasn't on straight and I didn't bother fixing it till it was too late. I took summer school this last summer and fixed the Cs and turned them into As. I'm wondering if I should stick with normal precalc/trig this year or go for the pre AP. If I take pre AP I'll have the option of taking AP Calc senior year and also w/ preap calc we get an extra 7% on tests.. I've also heard the teacher is better. Those who have taken the class, is it really that challenging?

Also, I'm still weary about taking two languages this year but I'd really love to learn French. I've had no problem picking up Spanish and I know they are similar in certain ways. Has anyone succesfully taken two different language courses in high school?

Oh I forgot to mention that I’m also taking debate. I’m doing public forum this year so it should take less time than cross examination buuuut it still requires a good chunk of time.

I’d definitely go with the pre-AP calc, just make sure to to work hard the whole year. I can’t really help with the languages question but I don’t think you should as you’re starting a new language junior year.

We don’t have Pre-AP in my school, but I think Pre-Calc honors is almost equivalent.

To be honest, I hated that class. That class was brutal, and I did horrible on the tests. The main reason I sucked is just because I’m not good at math, but that shouldn’t be an excuse. Pre-calculus isn’t easy and it takes time. Pre-calc is just an extension from algebra 2 with trig topics. The trig is a little confusing so study and make sure you know that unit circle lol. The best way to study math in my opinion is by doing-- a lot. For a homework set, do a problem then do it again. This is to ensure you know the steps to certain problems. Some questions in pre-calc require problem solving and manipulation, which requires practice. I’ll tell you, when we did series, finding the nth term always held me back, I just couldn’t do it lol. You obviously put a lot of work during summer school to get A’s in algebra II. Now, put that work ethic into pre-calculus and you should be fine. :)

I can’t help you on your second question though, sorry. Anyways, good luck :)

Thanks for the advice! I’m still iffy about taking pre ap because it seems algebra 2 is so similar. It was not my strongest subject… Maybe challenging myself will force me to get good… who knows!
