JUNIORS! What Are Your Summer Plans?

NHSGA: CMU's National High School Game Academy.

The only program that I know of for high schoolers who are serious about entering the game development industry.

Hmm I've heard of that.

NJ Gov School/NJ Scholars Program, Harvard SSP, Boys State, Columbia's summer program, debate camp, research @ Princeton/Rutgers, maybe skip calc BC... (depending on which programs I get into)

plus summer homework, college app essays, and college visits.

johns hopkins internship

summer school for health

study for satiis...and sat if i flunk the april test

summer reading

work

college stuff

sleep....:)

as of right now, no clue. probably a course at a university, most likely columbia.

Just to clarify--this isn't a course or program; it's something I've arranged on my own. If you're interested in science and would like to spend the summer working in a lab, I'd definitely recommend that option.

now that the subjects been broached, can anyone suggest sth worthwhile for an intl student from Pakistan?

I was gonna post "Oh yeah I'll catch up on my sleep too", but then I remembered I'm not getting any until second semester senior year.

I know. I was like "This is cool!! I want it!" until I saw the price tag...$5695 I think. I'm like "um..." But my parents are paying for it if I decide to go and if they decide to let me. I did Kaplan SAT review in Korea (who knows why?) this (past) summer, and it was $5.5k-NO HOUSING PROVIDED. Add $1k for the airfare, and I spent about $7k. So my mom'll think that the internship program is cheap.

Are you loaded or what??

thisyearsgirl: i feel i am a leader in the community and past accomplishments show that and i will be highlighting these in my application but ive been hearing that its key to take advantage of your summer from junior to senior year. I have also been told that what you do in this time period reflects the kind of person you are and it is possible that college admissions officers may not have time to find out how ive been spending my past summers, so instead they'll take this upcoming one into greater consideration. Now for some reason i dont really receive much mail from educational-oriented summer programs, so im just seeing what others are doing. Last time i checked, it was ok to ask questions and take in some advice from fellow high school juniors.

jaw. depends when you have vacation.

my cousin from india was going to do a program here. but he's some hotshot at soccer (football) so he isnt comming.

going to Italy for 2 weeks
going to Standford U Journalism Workshop for 4 days
Working at Weight Watchers and an Internship at Good Morning America (if i don't get it, working at a cell phone distributor as well)
Vollunteering at a soup kitchen
Beach, reading and sleep. Hah

-Ireland for 19 days
then
-work
-eat
-sleep
-repeat

I want to work with/assist a professor at our local university, but HOW can I "say" that to them?

Oh and I might get a job... Hopefully at Blockbuster (family tradition haha) so I can get free movies.

My plans for this summer?
-Get a job at local aquatic center (w00t for 8 dollars an hour!!)
-Marching Band
-Volunteer a BUNCH
-play WoW instead of sleeping...=)

JIMMY@KILLARNEY,

Dear Prof. X,

I saw your presentation at the Junior Science and Humanities symposium, and was very impressed with the research you described. Is there any way for high school students to assist in research in the neuroscience lab? If not, is there any other way to get involved?

Thank you for your time,
Elisabeth
(I'm the girl who asked about personality disorders.)

Possibly attending the S@Brown program, even though I won't apply there, mainly because it allows me to have some room next year in my schedule.

Barnum and Bailey internship
