(1000th POST!)

I'm applying for internships....

I'm either a) applying for a paid internship at the hospital or b) getting a job at the local amusement park with my friends. Both are good. :)

going to France with my French teacher and some fellow junior and senior students!!!
working at my weekend job
and hopefully getting an internship for all the time in between!

Oh, and getting a new computer...my laptop froze on me at least 6 times this evening alone.

yea im really not sure what im gonna do...I would have liked to apply to that LEAD Business program thing but thats only for minorities. I really need some ideas.

Do a business-related internship. Here's what I found so far...

http://www.ceinternships.com

I would tell you the other one, but they only have one spot left in the finance/banking program, and I'm applying to it. That would work against me.

Practice my SAT

Read my summer books >/

Draw Manga

Create my own Manga =]

Be on DA a lot

College Apps

Scholarship Apps

Work

Yea my summer plans are boring. xP

I'll be doing neuroscience research with a professor at Georgetown, and hopefully working at Starbucks (that's assuming I'm hired--I find out next week). It'll be good. :)

Oh, I have to do
-College Applications (especially my ED one to NYU Stern, since it has to be FLAWLESS-because my GPA's severely flawed)
-Practice SAT (hopefully I'll do so well the first time I won't need to do this)
-Read summer-reading books: I'll have like 17 of them. I plan to take AP English, AP Euro, and AP Econ. enough said.
-Enjoy NYC/Boston/London alot, depending where I get my internship placement. Visit NYU if I get placed at NYC.

"Do a business-related internship. Here's what I found so far...

http://www.ceinternships.com"

Um, I don't see the point in paying to do an internship. That seems like a scam....

ihateCA, your post reminded me that I'll need to fill out applications to whatever British universities I decide to apply to. (I'm an EU citizen; they're my financial safeties.) I don't get summer reading for school, but I want to do some "personal" reading, because I rarely have the time or energy for it during the school year.

That sounded like a really cool program iHateCA, until i stumbled on to the $5500 pricetag. Then i realized how bad it would be to live in NYC alone for one month at age 16. Sounds like a big sacrifice.

Possibly. I think the fee is for living at Julliard's dorms, but I'm not sure. Let's just hope it's not. If you're wondering, give the FTC or the Better Business Bureau a call, and see if there are any complaints filed against them, or do an investigation of court records to see if there are any suits filed/pending against them. Let me know what you find. Thanx.

I know. I was like "This is cool!! I want it!" until I saw the price tag...$5695 I think. I'm like "um..." But my parents are paying for it if I decide to go and if they decide to let me. I did Kaplan SAT review in Korea (who knows why?) this (past) summer, and it was $5.5k-NO HOUSING PROVIDED. Add $1k for the airfare, and I spent about $7k. So my mom'll think that the internship program is cheap.

I'm either doing TASP (hopefully) or one of four internships (DC or NYC).

I was thinking that possibly starting some sort of community service organization now and executing it over the summer could show colleges that your a leader and involved in the community. Anyone else have any similar ideas that can be executed without blowing $5000 that will give you something interesting to tell interviewers.

I will either be doing TASP, which I really really really so badly it hurts want to go to. Or I will be taking summer courses at Stanford, because that it is my ultimate dream school. And prep for SATs if I don't do well on the April SAT.

classprezcj: I hate to be blunt, but if you need to make a last-minute effort the summer before apps are due to "show colleges that your [sic] a leader and involved in the community", then you probably aren't a leader who's involved in the community. If you truly were you wouldn't need to pad your resume, because it would be evident from past accomplishments.

You can shadow a banker or something-arrange it yourself. Send a letter like:

Dear Sir/Ma'am:

My name is ________ (insert name), and I'm a high school student from _____(insert high school). I'm planning to study _(insert potential major) in college and am interested in a privately arranged internship with _(insert organization). My transcript, test scores, and recommendations will be available upon request. Please call ____(insert cell #) to arrange an interview. I look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you for your interest.

Sincerely,

to a bank or something, and make sure it's on letterhead, typed and follows the business letter format. Offer to turn in any supplemental materials.

Oh, and the community service thing sounds interesting too. I never thought of that.
