my finals are NEXT WEEK. i’m not going to be able to concentrate at all.
i have two projects due tomorrow. it’s midnight. haven’t started.
oops…

i would like to get some kind of resolution of this whole email timing mess, but i know that probably won’t happen… sigh.

pnptruong: as in 2:09 thursday?
if NO ONE here got the email before early Thursday morning, the reports of an email a few days ago may be false.
Maybe?..

I think the best way to go about figuring out what happened is for us to wait until the 16th, and then doing an analysis of how many acceptees got an email early, and how many got an email later. And then we’ll realize that there’s no apparent pattern and we’re paranoid.

I got the email Thursday at 04:10 AM. The sad part is that I was awake.

I think the pattern is a possibility if, say, they have all applicant emails separated into separate lists based on decisions so that they can send admitted applicants specific things later. Then maybe they sent that email to one list, then the next, then the next…

At the same time, MIT is not emailing us our decisions, and they’ve sent emails to all applicants before. Why would they need to separate email addresses based on admissions decision?

It would be interesting to study this once we know the decisions.

well, i won’t lie - i’m pretty much freaking out.
what would they do with the undecideds? group them with the deferred / rejected?
i may end up going to bed soon just so i can stop thinking so obsessively about this…
but i agree - we should pursue this further once we get the decisions.

@ JustAnotherCCer: I REALLY hope that’s what happened. This may sound really obsessive, but do you think you might be able to ask your friend to clarify?
I for one will be asking the two other MIT early applicants at my school when/if they got an email… :P

I wish I was applying to Hogwarts and instead of emails or the postal service, my decisions and notifications came from owls.
I can admit the one thing better than the top school of technology and engineering is the top school of magic.

Are you kidding? That would be dangerous to the owls. Imagine how many injured owls there would be, thwacked in the head by giant tubes. They never even knew what hit them…

I did not no so many people would get stressed out, so let me clarify.

Ok, I got mine at 4:11 accoridng to my email.

I was curious so I asked everyone in my school that applied. All of thsaid (3 others) they got one and at around 4:00

However, one of my friends, who happens to be a Chemistry Olympiad Qualifier and Simenes Semifinalist, straight As… said that MIT sent one out 2 days ago, which is a big difference.

I also asked another person from another school and he said he knew about it 2 days ago (i do not know if he was referring to a blog post or what)

However, both could be referring to the blog post, so please do not worry too much about it. I got one at 4:11, so I would be rejected if they did send one out later.

Yeah, so far everyone has gotten it around 4AM eastern time (almost all by 4:10) adjusted for their time zone…so maybe we can forget this little…um…minor scare.

Blog post was indeed up two days ago, and asking the super-qualified types (i.e. that dude who went to MOSP black), they never received an early email.

Guys, calm down. Seriously, it’ll be okay. Here’s my two cents, and hopefully it’s some consolation. Last year decisions were released the 15th, and the blog announcing it went up the 8th. I received my email just after midday on the 10th. This year it looks like the blog went up the 7th, and decisions will be released the 16th. Most of you received emails in the early hours of the 10th. It looks to me like they wait about two days after the blog announcement to start sending emails. Alternatively, they could send an email 5-6 days before decisions are released. I can’t compare with others at this point, but at the very least, I received my email with five days to decision day and I was accepted. I very much doubt that there was another massive batch of emails sent two days later. That would be cutting it a little close.

Really, calm down. I love you guys but this is what is so frustrating about CC sometimes. We all will get our decisions on the 16th. If it turns out I’m rejected I’m not going to speculate that my receiving the email at the same time as 95% of other applicants had anything to do with it.

Just wait for the 16th. Go do homework. Other applications. Go have fun, for heaven’s sake.
