Hello everyone, I'm from Connecticut, and I'm looking for a school that has a good political science department, and is relatively small. Preferrably in New England, but I'm willing to bend on that. My GPA is about 3.1-3.2 (I'm a junior) and I'm in all honors/AP classes. My high school doesn't offer an AP Government class (it's very small) but I'm going to take a Poli Sci class at a local community college this spring. I'm in AP US History as well. Hope you all can help, some of the discussions I've seen look great!

What will you likely major in?

Can you increase your GPA?

Will you be taking the PSAT this month?

How much will your parents pay each year? If you don’t know, ask.

I’m very likely (around 85-90% sure) going to major in Political Science. I can increase my GPA, but I also am realistic about my tendencies, so I’d put myself at a 3.1-3.2 to be safe. However, my school’s GPA system is weighted, so it could be higher, because I’m in AP/Honors classes. I’ll be taking PSAT’s in a couple weeks. Money isn’t really an object at this point, because I haven’t started looking into scholarships/work study/financial aid just yet. I’d like to get a good idea of where I’m going before I get really wrapped up into that.

I’ve also got a fair bit of extra-curricular stuff, such as: being a founding member of my high school’s Gay/Straight Alliance, a teen writing program called the VOICES project, being a Program Assistant at a computer camp, participating in a summer debate program, and I’ll most likely have an internship at an organization called True Colors that works with LGBT youth, and for a senior project, I’m planning to talk to some veterans and conduct interviews and publish/write about them. How much of an effect will this have on my chances of getting into a decent college?

ArslanAhmed, I don’t mean any disrespect, but I don’t really know what you’re saying. Could you reword that a little better?

It’s very hard to guess without scores. And political science is such a common major. For that gradepoint, maybe Clark in Massachusetts, Gettysburg, Muhlenberg in Pennsylvania. Maybe visit a few places nearby (Trinity, Skidmore) to figure our your criteria a little more. If you visit someplace and you find that you don’t like X then that helps you to think what you DO want.

I’m guessing my SAT scores will be around 1800ish.
