Major affecting Transferring Possibilities

Hi,

I'm probably being a little crazy here and thinking too far ahead, but I'll post my concerns anyway to see what you all think.

I'm a freshman at SUNY Binghamton, currently undecided. I've been thinking about transferring for awhile, and have also recently begun thinking about law school down the line. Though I had originally planned on majoring in English, I'm taking a politicial sociology course this semester and it has persuaded me to change direction. I am now considering one of two majors: A. Philosophy or B. Philosophy, Politics, and Law.

My question is this: Would it be smarter to major in philosophy, where if I decide to transfer, more of my credits could carry over to the other school? Or should I major in Philosophy, Politics, and Law (which I'd probably find more interesting), but due to its interdisciplinary nature, far less credits would carry over if I decide to transfer?

P.S. Money is an issue, especially if I pursue law school, so I'd really only transfer if it was to a school like Columbia. I currently have a 4.0 gpa, hopefullllly I can pull that off again, but of course as everyone knows Columbia is basically impossible to transfer into.

Thanks everybody!

what is ur high school record like and ur sat scores

b/c i know a kid there, his high school record was very solid, but his sats were horrible like 1130, and therefore, he was rejected by every good school, didn't even make nyu

and thus, sats matter, what did u get?

i had a 92 average and a 1440 sat, but since I'd be applying junior year (if I apply at all) i dont think hs grades would matter as much, right?

bump...sorry!

If money is an issue, getting more units to carry over is probably more important than having a slightly different major. You can always use electives on poli sci or soc/history classes to mimic the phil, politics, law major, which is probably primarily philosophy and political science in nature. But perhaps doing the special major is worth it to you. It's tough to say.

Thanks DRab. Yeah, its a tough call, because the chances of actually being accepted to a school such as Columbia are soooooooo insanely low anyway, that it may be worth it to just do the PPL major. However, if I thought I had any shot at all in successfully transferring, I'd give more consideration to the philosophy major.

last bump, i promise. I'm sooo back and forth on this one. And NYU is a consideration too, not just Columbia which I could never actually get into.
