First year having to do FAFSA for two college students - one already in, one will be in fall - goody!

We have filled in info for already enrolled student with her PIN # - still need to sign
We have received PIN for 2nd student and filled out info - still need to sign.

As far as OUR pin (parents) do we only use that for the electronic signing? In other words, we don't need to "sign in" and fill out another form just for us, right? Cause all of our info is already inserted on the students forms?

And somehow, though our electronic signing is how they will know that we are responsible for 2 students next year and thus our EFC is to be split by the two???

They’ll know you have 2 students next year because presumably you answered “2” to the question about how many will be in college next year. Each FAFSA you file (one for each kid) will generate an EFC. Each EFC is for that child only.

You only need one PIN number as a parent. The kids each need their own. I sign both my kids’ FAFSA with my one PIN. Their’s are each signed by them with their own.

I may be misunderstanding your question, but if you mean do you need to log in and create an account of your own, then no. The student is really the one filing (although many of us parents do it for them), the questions are asked from the point-of-view of the student applicant, etc.

Your parent PIN is just used to sign the student’s FAFSA app. In your case (and mine) you’ll have to sign two different FAFSA apps - one of each of your kids.

Yes that is how it worked the other day for me. The only place my pin was entered was at the end each of the two FAFSA forms. A SAR was generated for each kid, in our case they were identical, but it depends on the income/tax info for each kid. The EFC can be different for each kiddo.

^^^ Yes. The part of the EFC generated by parent income/assets is divided between the # in college. The part generated by a student’s own income/assets stays with that student.
