Just curious about UCF but...

I want to know if my SAT scores are good enough for the school. My best reading score is 490 (It's so hard to get to 500. If the curve was just a little higher in the May 2011 test, I would have gotten the 500 I wanted), my best math score is a 610, and my best writing score is a 620. My college gpa when I last calculated was a 4.2+. Based off this information, do you guys think I have what it takes to get into UCF?

My SAT reading score is kind of weak, I know, but I'm just curious. I took the June 2011 SAT but I don't think I did so well (I was sick and the test environment was bad, let alone me not being able to study and prep for this test due to a bunch of school projects, work, and now final exams). I took the SATs in May 2011 and March 2011.

Also, do I have a shot at UF, FSU, or UM? If it helps, I'm in the top 5% of my graduating class. Thanks so much!

I’d say UCF and FSU are good matches. Possibly UM. UF is just unpredictable for anyone.

I’d say those scores were a maybe for UCF. I got a 680 cr, 690 math, and 700 writing as my best all at once score, but didn’t get in due to my GPA being barely 3.5, but a friend of mine got all 700+'s, and had a 4.1 W gpa, and also didn’t get in, so I feel like they take a ton of other factors in to account.

That’s interesting…you and your friend should have gotten in. Those scores you have are amazing and your friend’s scores/GPA are amazing as well. Did you apply late?

I’m a little confused with what happened to you and your friend Arifriekinel. Your scores are not only good enough to get into UCF but good enough for the Honors College as well. Did you apply late perhaps? In my opinion your GPA was still in a solid range so that makes no sense.

Sabertooth, keep retaking the SAT. I feel that you may be able to get into UCF and FSU, perhaps for summer just because of your reading score being quite low. UM may be a bit of a reach with a 490 and UF I would say is also a stretch but they accepted someone from my school who barely broke 1000 but rejected my friend who had a 1300 SAT and 33 ACT so who knows. Good luck though!

I applied in October, but I didn’t get a decision until May, Saber. And I thought so too, marlins, but I was applying to get into Comp Sci and Engineering, and I was told that they judge a LOT harder for people going into the more competitive and prestigious programs.

Arifriekinel, in your opinion, do you think I would be best off applying as undecided and then choosing my major if I am accepted? I am not 100% sure what I want to major in anyways, but for my app do you think the greatest advantage would be undecided?

I don’t think I could say in an educated way which one would be better. It looks to me like undecided would be fine for incoming freshman, and wouldn’t hurt you, since it’s such a common choice, but if you enter into a more difficult program, they might hold you to a higher standard.

However, don’t hold me to that :P

I definitely agree. Thanks for your input :)

Sabertooth, your scores should be good enough for UCF. My scores were a 550 in Reading, a 590 in Math, and a 640 in writing and I got in with a 4.1 GPA.

Arifriekinel, did your friend happen to take easy classes his senior year? UCF doesn’t like it when seniors take easy classes, even if they have high GPAs. I got deferred to the summer because I took AP Statistics as my math class instead of Pre-Calculus (Yeah, I’ll admit, I went easy with math). If that’s not the case, then UCF is definitely getting hard to get into.

Arifrienkel, there had to be some kind of problem. I really don’t know, someone with your stats applying in October should have gotten in, probably even into the Brunett honors college.

I’m not sure, really :stuck_out_tongue: I’ve seen really similar results from other people going into the same field, like from mine and surrounding school’s robotics team. I also thought the fact that I was a programmer on our first place Botball team this year, and National Merit Comm. and National Achievement Semi, buttt they hate me D:

Arifriekinel, have you ever contacted them about why you got rejected? I hear they do make mistakes…

Yeah, I kept in relatively consistent contact with them over the months between my application submission and rejection. They never gave me any sort of real personal contact though. Only stuff along the lines of “It was 'cause of the strength of this year’s applicant pool, gurrlllllll”

Wow Arifriekinel! As another 2012 freshman prospective, your story makes me a wee bit nervous. Are you going to reapply or are you attending another college?

I’ll be doing Direct Connect through Valencia. I’m not sure how long that’ll take me. Through APs and Dual Enrollment, I have over 45 credits. That -should- leave me with just one semester, but I’m not sure if DC allows single-semester students?

My question…when does UCF start READING the 2012 applications. because if I can submit them early like in the summer…will they start reading them NOW or in september?
