Just entering HS...

(Sorry to cross-post; I posted this in College Admissions which was obviously the wrong board)

I know this is sort of early to be thinking about college and stuff, but I'm entering high school and really thinking about my plans for the future.

Age 13, female

skipped a grade

ECs:
• participated in JHU CTY for 4 years and scored quite well
• took the SATs at 11, 720 verbal, 570 math
• 'new' one a year later and got 720 verbal, 690 writing, 620 math
• CTY’s Study for Exceptional Talent for getting 700+ before age 13
• Violin since 3rd grade; not particularly good, but it’s such an enormously popular instrument
• Chorus since 3rd grade; select chorus, private lessons
• School and community theater productions; I love acting, pretty good in character roles
• High honor roll, 98 average, all accelerated courses in HS, etc.
• School science fair, 3rd place then 1st the next year; the fair wasn't really competitive
• The only teen lector at my church
• several poems and essays place/win in local contests
• participated in Optimist speech contests; I’m pretty good at public speaking
• Pop Warner 1st team All-American Little Scholar
• Summer programs at Clarkson 2005 and 2006
• going to play marimba in nationally-recognized marching band

I'm planning on taking (I think) 9 APs throughout hs, eventually having 5 senior year; me and the rest of college applicants across America...

Of course, I’ll need to continue to achieve in high school, but I was just wondering if someone could give me some advice about what to pursue in the next four years. Thanks to an Enrichment (G+T) teacher with 3 Ivy league children, I understand how competitive admissions are and that it's really important to pursue one activity, and achieve something notable in that field. I’d say my strongest talent is writing, so I’m considering trying to get something actually ‘published’; however, I don’t really want to abandon math and science. I'm planning on taking some Distance Education courses from CTY and looking into their summer programs for next year.

My parents have already dragged me to Harvard twice, and I’ve also visited Stanford, Cornell and Colgate. I have to say that I definitely got the ‘warm fuzzies’; I’m kind of sick of always being that weirdo kid who picks the desk right up front and raises her hand all the time. I’m really looking forward to meeting other kids like this in college.

I’m sorry that this is kind of a rambling post, but I’d really appreciate any advice or tips; I’m really trying to get a sense of ‘direction…’ I'm kind of terrified that (by the time I have to apply) you'll have to be a superhuman to get into a good school...

TIA!

bump bump bump

WHOO! Yay for people who skip grades! It sucks a bit later on, though, when all your friends are starting to drive and you're still a year or so away from even being able to get a permit...

Anyways. What do you really like? (as in a hobby) Public speaking? Just expand on something you genuinely like, and you're guaranteed to be not only super-awesome at it, but you'll have a good time getting there.

Haha, you took the SAT at 11? and took it at 12 and got a 2050? make sure to go outside every so often, it's good for you.

• Violin since 3rd grade; not particularly good, but it’s such an enormously popular instrument

popular - no good.

You need professional help.

most likely study all day and not getting any exercise...

Most likely fat

Go-vibe/ always say things negative but true stuff so cant really argue about it :p

calling the thread starter fat just because she studies alot is just like me calling go-vibe a violin playing, nazi parent owning, midget with a small dick just because he's asian.

I think the above poster has a small dick.

Don't scared of having to be superman. YOU are one of those superman people that people are scared of competing with

lol, what i posted above didn't come out the way i wanted it do now that i think about it and it probably wasn't the smartest thing to do considering a large portion of this forum is probably asian. i was just trying to show that calling the girl fat and having preconcieved notions about asians are both both ignorant and immature things to do and shows you are giving into stereotypes.

lol go outside and play while ur young enough screw colleges.. ur 13

You use the semi-colon a lot.

Semi-colon: +4 on SAT writing test.

Figure out what you love. Do those things because you love them.

It is far, far, far more important to find and nurture yourself than it is to position yourself for admission to an elite college.

Try to forget about positioning yourself for colleges. Make your choices for yourself, not for colleges.

Taking SATs is not an "EC" IMO

Violin: do you like it?

What do you love? (including acting)

You're in for a ride once you're high school. From the wise words of my english teacher, "no matter what school you go to, may it be middle school, high school or college, you'll hate it."

My advice to you is to do something you like. By the looks of it, you're going to do fine academically in high school. Keep it up!

come back in 3 years

Dabble. Find out what you truly enjoy and not jsut what you think you do. give a lot of things a shot, you might be suprised. I would really recommend cutting back on teh school work and enjoying life. Unless yu are one of teh kids that doesn't sleep, find time to enjoy the little things: a walk, reading a book, going to the beach, not studying, etc. And for gods sake forget about college!

ha, i
m entering highschool, too.. but you
re pretty much a genious compared to me .
