I've just seen my SAT score and you don't have to tell me that they're terrible (1830) and I was so stupid to hope that I could get into MIT. I'm an international student and I really believe that my knowledge is greater than what the SAT scores show, but the people looking at the students' applications don't know that. My GPA when calculated to US grade would be 4.0 and I have a lot of extracurricular activities, from being the Student Council President to directing three plays and a short movie. But deep inside I still have some hopes about MIT, although my reason tells me that the chances are minimum with my SAT as bad as that. Tell me what you think, please... Thanks...

I forgot to write what my application would look like:

First of all, you might have time to retake the SATs. Assuming, probably incorrectly, that you got the same score on each section, your scores are in fact on the low side for MIT, but if you take it again and improve, MIT only cares about your best scores.

Second, right now MIT looks at the verbal and math sections of the SAT I, but is not using the writing section until evidence demonstrates that the writing section is useful in predicting college success. If you did badly on the writing section, you may benefit from this policy.

Third, if the rest of your application is good enough, it can offset lower SAT scores at least to some degree.

and If I remember well If you take the TOEFL and the SAT I they will consider the scores that put you in a better light. That means that if your TOEFL is somewhat better that 600 it will be taken into account instead of SAT I

liss2006 is right. They take whichever score looks better for you.
Cheer up. :)

I didn't know that. Thanks. My TOEFL scores are available in about ten days, so I'll see...

just hope for a good TOEFL and nail your SAT II's....

But that advice is very very MIT restricted...so if u plan to apply to other colleges too then up that SAT

what is your SAT I Math subscore?
