Just got back from wait list interview

Some things I learned...

*They wait listed roughly 1,000 students, and will take roughly 100
*Those that did not interview have very little shot at being among the 100
*Decisions will be in around May 10-15
*I would say about 1 in every 25 GW students I saw were preppy. All the guide books make it seem like every student wears Lacoste, Abercrombie, etc. Not true. I went over to Georgetown as well, and I would say about 90% of them were preppy.

ugh I can't believe that. I'm waitlisted and there is no way I can get away to go do a waitlist interview in DC.
oh well. Good luck.

My feeling was even if I come off of the waitlist I won't be able to afford it so why try too hard

Well, she said it was still possible to get in if you did not interview but you'd have to send them a lot of material, such as why you want to go, what has happened between now and when you applied, why you are unable to interview, etc.

But if you really want to go you'd have to send it soon as they start making wait list decisions this week.

I believe she said about half the list has already been essentially eliminated because they did not interview nor provide any additional materials.

Also, she said that your major plays a large role in who gets in, so I'm guessing that those with a politics-oriented major do not have a great shot since they have so many already.

Have you tried for a phone interview?

I don't think they offer phone interviews.

My friend will be participating in a phone interview tomorrow, but I am sure there are special circumstances involved. All you can do is try.

i don't think there are phone interviews- my friend contacted verna harry and she said that she couldn't attend b/c of ap testing and ms. harry said that there aren't any phone interviews

Well he just did it.....

i had a waitlist interview just this past week as well, and I was told that 600 students were waitlisted, and that on a regular year they accept between 75 and 100 - and that from the deposits recieved thus far, GW is on track to accept the same number this year. Also, the consider waitlist accepteds for merit the same way they do regular decision merit awards. And that's awesome that we'll hear soon. I just want to know and be done with all of this waiting! haha

I heard the same thing when I went for my interview. Just by doing the interview, you improve your chances from 800 students to about 250 students. I was told they accept around 100-150 students. That is pretty good odds I think. Decisions should be out this week. Good Luck.

My friend found out last night that she got off the waitlist... they called her.

Congratulations to her!

I just got in off the wait list, as did my cousin. They said I got in b/c I interviewed, and at the interview they told me you had to interview to get in. However, I don't think my cousin interviewed or did anything other than say she wanted to remain on the wait list.

My parents want me going to Tulane, partly for financial reasons. Financial aid is not offered to those admitted from the wait list. My EFC is 45k but my parents think they can only pay 15k. GW is 52k or 56k or something like that.

But it's my decision and I've almost managed to convince them to let me go to GW. I need to make a final decision tomorrow and I'm pretty sure I'll be attending GW.

hmmm....a majority of schools are actually able to offer finaid to their accepted waitlist students, they just don't guarantee it...Ohh GW- Good luck in DC though! You'll be missed at Tulane

are you sure about financial aid? supposedly the package is supposed to come shortly after waitlist acceptance.

are you sure about the waitlist/no-finaid thing? i mean, i was stupid and didn't file for aid until like two weeks before classes started my freshman year, and they still came up with an insanely good package for me.

Correction: I called my cousin and she did interview.

And about the aid, she said...

"You still may receive aid, but GW typically does not give aid to those pulled off of the wait list, so you should not expect any."

Need-based aid or merit-based aid?

They were referring to need-based, but I doubt I'm getting any merit money either.
