hey, i just got accepted to KP a few weeks ago and have some questions.....

I am in NJROTC and have some techniques to polishing my shoes and brass that require my own products, such as pumice, and a special polishing rag....would it be wise to bring these to indoc....or should i try to do with out.....?

you can try... a polishing rag won't be that bad, but I've never heard of using pumice. I would suggest that during Indoc, you just use what is given to you. If you have anything extra you will be "different" and that is a bad thing.
Unless you like getting yelled at.

have them sent right after indoc.......you'll get pointed out for being different during indoc if you use your own stuff. Also, but let it be known that you are a JROTC, it makes things harder for you and the draws way more attention to yourself then you want.

thanks for the info about being a jrotc...do u suggest play as if im not a jrotc and try to fly under the radar.....also the pummice is for the belt... you mix it in with braso and it takes the protective varnish off faster...after that you polish with streight brasso to get the small scratces out....it cuts time in about half.....

yeah fly under the radar, i did, didn't get IT'd on my own once, heck the DI's didnt even know me until the last day, but by then I didn't care. As for the pumice...you will soak your belt in ammonia to rid it of the lacquer (spelling?) So then all you need to do is brasso. Honestly, during indoc, it doesn't matter if your belt or shoes look like crap, they'll tell you to bring them up, but the only time you have to shine them is when everyone else all shines them, don't worry about it.

Don't try to act like anything, just do what your told. You may already know how to march and everything, and thats fine......march. But do not freely give away the fact that you were in JROTC, so many kids come in here thinking they know everything because they were a JROTC and it turns out they really suck and everyone hates them. Flying under the radar is key.....Indoc has been the best part of my time here at KP, becasue I did my stuff well (I was a sea cadet, but no one knew that) and no one noticed me.

what is the hardest part of indoc and what should i expect...(ive seen all the pictures) are there any inside tricks besides check you brain at the door and do as you are told....

The hardest part of indoc are the first one or two days... it is just a pure change in lifestyle, and even if you are prepared for it, it will seem weird. Plus, because you have no way of knowing what time it is, time goes really slowly... the first day will seem like a good few days. After that, it gets easier.

Plebes incoming! Brings back memories, does it guys? LOL
Glad you guys are here to answer questions that we parents don't have a clue about. Hey! Ya'll haven't even been to sea yet and have sea stories to tell. Heh.

There is going to ba a USMMA Alumni dinner in Seattle on May 15. You should see about going. The DC Alumni Chapter is very welcoming to candidates and Mids. My guess is it would be the same in Seattle.
