The Cadet Store

This may have been discussed before, but some grads/cadets/parents have told me to buy extra starch and stuff like that when we go to the C-store pretty early in Beast 1. I know they will tell us what we need to get, but is there anything that it helps to have extra of? Thanks for the help.

starch is a good one. Windex, a duster of some sort, another toothbrush. That's all for now.

I bought a maglight, so I didn't have to rely on the issued flashlight. My issue light broke twice during BCT, and I only used it for a short time.

I don't know if everyone will agree, but I HIGHLY reccomend Lincolnwax over Kiwi polish. Kiwi will shine your shoes faster, but Lincolnwax lasts longer, and will keep looking good after shining your boots a couple hundred times. (My opinion, anyway)

probably some 409 as well, the sinks in Vandy are terrible when it comes to seeing anything but a perfect shine...then again, not sure if Windex can clean it. And as we said before, be wary of jokster Cadre "misplacing" stuff in your bag.

"be wary of jokster Cadre "misplacing" stuff in your bag."

Yes, several people, including a guy who's now a firstie, have told me to watch what gets put into my bag. No one will tell me any first-hand experiences about jokes like that though...

Thanks for the recommendations. I have another question, though. When they send us into the C-store to buy stuff, will they just say things like "get cleaning supplies", or will they say "get Windex, something to scrub the sink with, a duster" etc? Thanks again for the help.

My cadre didn't tell us much, so our first trip resulted in too little supplies.

Did they let you talk to your roommate while you made your purchases? How did you communicate? What basic items should be purchased i.e.(iron, iron board, swiffer dusters, windex wipes,)? What type of things would a cadre sneak in the bag (candy, jerky, crackers)?

Our cadre didn't sneak anything, so I can't offer any advice there. But don't try to buy candy or anything, bad idea.

All those items you listed are good things to buy.

You cannot talk in the C-store as a Basic or unrecognized 4 dig. Coordinate before hand. But I highly recommend you each get an ironing board and iron to go to bed earlier.

Someone told me that the Cadre "misplace" embarrassing non-masculine products in the guys' bags, but I'm not sure what they "misplace" in the girls' bags. As I said before, no one will tell me exactly what happened to them in the C-store, so I don't know what the Cadre's tactics will be. Maybe a distraction of some sorts?

If any of you 3-digs think of anything else we should buy in the C-store, please post it. Thanks.

Get some Shout wipes to clean off stains on your BDUs. They seem to work when you're in a hurry.

And I've never heard of Cadre putting stuff in a basic's bag but I'd imagine it would be just to embarrass them or just harass them when they get to the register.

I know there are a few things that I'll need for basic, like a nail clipper and a razor(I'm a girl), that weren't listed to bring...should I pack them anyway or just wait to buy them at the C-Store?

Alrighty, list so far:

starch
Windex
duster
toothbrush
maglight??
409
Lincolnwax
shout wipes

And will we have access to the money that we bring with us on I-Day?

We are issued a toothbrush lol. and toothpaste...

you will not have access to the money. All your purchases will be taken out of your "magic money."

Geeze... you guys need to take a chill pill. The C-store is the least of your worries... i would worry about some big guy getting into your face and tearing you a new one. I can see it right now... most of you will be crying yourselves to sleep at night... You can hear people sobbing at night time. its quite scary.

Wait- so why are we bringing money in the first place?
And how long will it be until we actually go to the c-store?

Money is probably for when you finish BCT I suppose.

You will go to the C-store within the first week most likely.

I'd agree with zoomieboomie a bit lol

"I know there are a few things that I'll need for basic, like a nail clipper and a razor(I'm a girl), that weren't listed to bring...should I pack them anyway or just wait to buy them at the C-Store?"
I'd like an answer to this too, please. I've also brought some hair bands that are roughly the same color as my hair (black). Maybe a girl should field this one, but should I bring them? I'm not sure they conform to the standards (though I can barely notice them when I look at the back of my head in a mirror).

You are issued nail clippers. You probably won't be shaving in BCT, but bring it if you wish. Should be ok to keep, might get ragged on a bit though ("you got a hairy lip or something?").

Otherwise, wait till the C-store.
