Just Got my package...wow

carrera, despite our differences of opinion, i really thought that you would make it and we could continue debating. this only reassures me that admissions is a crapshoot and in no way should you take your rejection as a reflection of your merits. you will do great somewhere, i know.

oh btw how do you know the reason you were rejected?

I wonder if I can track this package. My dad wants to make sure we receive the package before we start telling people about it.

I don't know why though, he called today to make sure that I did indeed get in, and they said yes.

Thanks Scorpio... I am glad you did get in, along with the rest of you guys.

My college counselor knew why I was rejected... and it was my Junior year grades (B/B+ average). Problem was that I had to change schools, so adjusting was difficuilt. Once I adjusted, I was doing great. 4th quarter last year, I got an A- average, and 1st qauarter this year, I got an A average, and that shows that I con do very well when I am adjusted and not going through tough times... but whatever, I guess Columbia did not have a ****...

"Nice job guys. So the package comes by UPS? I live in Oregon. Maybe it will come tommorow."

"UPS 2nd Day Air"mail i got it, lol seems like a waste of money for CU because I live in borderline jersey.

"My college counselor knew why I was rejected... and it was my Junior year grades (B/B+ average). "

:Sigh: Carrera, that's tough man, but I still can't see how your conselor can be so sure since it was somewhat a crapshoot. Stay strong man...
p.s. I drank to all of you guys yesterday.

i got my package also!!!!!

man...

my package BLOWS

My family has to pay 32k.. a cheap 7k in grants.

I don't think this meets our need at all.

Unless CU wants my parents to eat nothing but dry toast for the next 4 years, not buy any new clothes, use any electricity, or go 80k into debt... this is nuts.

"My family has to pay 32k"

wow...thomas, if you feel that it's not right, did you happen to forget to add anything in the fin-aid form? Like maybe your parents salary is high but they are currently using money for something else that you didn't include?

then again, I'm just randomly guessing here...CU still want an update on family expense around Feb...i think. (FAFSA+2004 Tax Returns)

My package was just sitting inside the screen door to my house all day. Oops.

Well, I'm also gonna try for more aid. We'll see. (Or they can -not- see me in August.)

Is the Kluge award for minorities given regardless of ability to pay? The finaid deal there is amazing, and the meetings with important figures sound awesome, too. You guys should be REALLY happy. I'm not a minority, btw.

Everything was filled out right, we checked it over.

Eh, I guess we got what we deserve.

I dunno. I see such a huge number and just flip out.. but I realize that -all- families -must- go into debt to send their kids to college, especially a school like Columbia.

My parents have a meager salary, being bluecollar workers, but they have property assets that probably were weighed against us very heavily... property which still has a great chunk of mortgage on it, which is not considered by the finaid office. So it's practically seen as property that is fully paid.

I talked to my folks about this huge sum of money and they were initially pretty shocked but then realized that it should be doable with a bunch of borrowing and monthly direct payments... and cutting back on a lot. Probably removes the possibility of a vacation this summer. I always thought we were poor.. guess CU disagrees. Ah well. Life goes on. For now... celebration!

Agreed. Celebration is the idea.

definitely celebration!

Thomaschau, the point of ED is that it's a binding agreement. You have to be prepared to handle the financial costs of ED, even if you do get a really crappy finaid deal. If you're from a less financially-capable family, it's safer to go the RD route. Nevertheless, congrats on getting accepted to Columbia.

actually...If you decide that the financial aid offer that Columbia gives you is not sufficient, you are by no means obligated to go to Columbia. Most school have binding aggrements to certain degrees.

Also!!!!!!...The Early Decision agreement is in no way legal! Its just two groups making assumptions based on the honor code. It just seems that about 90% tend to actually abide by this agreement. If the money's not good enough, take em to the cleaners!

I think a Kluge Scholar can be of any race. Or perhaps it's for all minorites, not just URMs, because my friend's one, and she's Asian Indian. I would be so happy to be a Kluge Scholar(congrats opal!), but right now I'm just hoping to get in! RD applicant here.

Kluge is only for minorities. It says so in the description.I'm wondering if it's need-based or not. It sounds like a merit scholarship (no, not at a need-based school! well. . . .) for minorities.

Abetterkid, try ignoring an ED agreement without coming to an agreement of the ED school and enrolling at another high-end school instead.

Has anyone recieved their package today (Saturday)? Or do I have to wait until Monday?

I just received mine today! I live in central Jersey. Anyway, it's a pretty package though I only got $5,000.........

I haven't gotten mine yet, but i guess thats because i live in Cali...lol
