Just got my SAT scores, what are my chances?

I just got my SAT score and it looks like I got 620 in reading, 530 in math, and 530 in writing. I am taking them again on June 2 because on every single practice test i've done i've never scored that badly on writing so I hope to get it up to at least 580 (I was a little afraid to post these scores on here as everyone on this site seems to post such amazing scores.... don't judge me lol). But anyway, when added together this comes to a score of 1680.

My GPA is 3.73 (I am a Canadian student and have no idea what weighted/unweighted means but this is the one that's highest goes to 4.0).

I have a fair amount of extra curriculars and am a prefect at my school.

As of now, I want to get into a communication program (journalism not media) at either University of Georgia, Penn State, or University of Michigan (which university is better, University of Michigan or Michigan State?)

I'd really like to know what my chances are... and if you have any other suggestions based on what i've listed above, please include those that would be amazing!!! I want to join a sorority so big greek life would be nice and I want my school to be in a nice college town.

I'm a Canadian so I am extremely new to American Universities.

THANK YOU :)

It really depends on the program, but in general, University of Michigan is better. I’m not sure about their communication programs, though. Those may stack up differently.

I don’t think your SAT and GPA are competitive for UMich. I don’t know enough about the other schools to say much there. With a little boost, your GPA could be somewhat competitive, but I wouldn’t be very hopeful with anything less than a 3.8. Your SAT is what needs the most work, though.

You might want to consider taking the ACT- many midwestern colleges such as UMich receive many more ACT than SAT scores, and you could to considerably better than you did on the SAT- that was the case for me

I don’t think your SAT is competitive for Penn State (main campus) either. But there are plenty of other schools that are less competitive than Penn State and Univ of Michigan that have journalism.

I’d recommend the ACT too…both my kids did better on the SAT.
