Just got my score; what should i do??

Hello out there to all of you at CC. Here is my situation. I am a senior at a public high school outside of Boston, MA. I have a 2080 on my highest SAT and pretty good grades. But decided to take the ACT. So I registered, paid the late fee, and took the October test. Just got my scores online Friday morning. 33 Composite - which really surprised me. 34 Eng, 32 Math, 34 Reading and 32 Science. How the heck I scored a 32 science when I ran out of time and had to put my pencil down, left out a few questions, and completely guessed on about 10 - 15 questions is a miracle, esp. because I was only scoring 26-29 on the redbook science. After the test, I felt like I got about a 10 on science. Like others have said here, Oct. science must have been an enormous up curve because it was a pretty hard section. (Still waiting on writing - but it does not seem that important.) I was always planning on applying to BU or BC. Staying local because I love Boston, my family, and there are so many schools here. Never thought I had a shot at anything better, like Tufts, or Williams or that kind of school without legacy. My question is that I am thinking about taking the ACT again because if I can get a 34-35, that would open up a chance at so many more schools in the Boston area, like Tufts, maybe even MIT, Williams, etc. But here is my concern: Is it extremely unlikely that there will be an ACT with such a big up curve for science again?? I would hate to take the test and go down. What is your opinion? Stick with the 33 or take it again? Thanks, Jen, Brookline, Mass.

the curves are all relative…so there’s no such as thing as a “big” up curve for science.

in my opinion, this is kinda a dumb question… a 33 is a great score, i wouldn’t retake it… instead, focusing on my essays (wish i could get a 33…)

I agree. Yes, it does look like science had a nice curve in October, or many people just did better than they thought, because it was a time consuming section. I also scored in the 30s in science after I drew a blank and randomly guessed on about 1/2 of the questions. A lot of kids at my school who thought they bombed science wound up with a score of 30+. But even if there was a good curve, if I were you, just stick with the good SAT and ACT scores you got. By the way, Boston U and Boston Coll. are both real good schools. Just my opinion. Good luck.

33 won’t be the weak part of your application anywhere. It will put you in the top 50% at every university in America (except for Harvard, in which case you’d be exactly 50th percentile).

thanks for the advice
will probably not take it again.
