This is pathetic... On the last practice test I took before, I had writing and math in 700s. The math was definitely stupid mistakes, especially what surprised me was my CR was close to my math!

Anyway, I am going to have to take it again.. so I got some questions..

1) I thought I knew most of the rules for writing, I had the PR book. Anyone know anyway to get this score up? Also, did the essay play a big part in the lower score?

2) I know the PR 250 words and I want to learn more so I can get my CR higher, any products out there that is specifically for SAT and has like flash cards or atleast sentences with it?

Honestly, I think practice for writing and CR is the best idea for review. For CR, I looked over couple hundreds of vocab words because I had time. Clearly most of the words weren't on the test itself, but it gave me a better understanding of vocabulary. Beyond a certain point, though, vocabulary studying wouldn't be all that helpful. Go for it if you have time, but I think most of the time passage-based reading rather than sentence completion trips people up, and I would definitely focus my time on reading more, practice more using real passages, and getting a feel for what you need to read, what types of questions are common, and what types of answer choices are often correct.

For writing, the SAT really only tests a rather small range of rules, so I say make a list, stick to it, and be extra careful when you are actually taking it. An 8 shouldn't bring your grade down too much. Practice is always super helpful for getting a feel of specific types of errors so that you'll spot them quickly on the actual test.

My best advice is practice practice practice with a specific bit of prep work.
