Just got SAT scores back.. Which Colleges?

Hi
I’m a high school junior, starting to look at different colleges. With my grades what can I expect to get into? I’ve looked at Geneseo, and I’m checking out the CALS program at Cornell soon.

Took the SAT for first time in January, almost no prep, got 1900 overall but 700 English, 660 Writing and

Was your math score 540? Do you intend to be pre-vet?

A 540 Math will hurt your chances for STEM at Cornell…

Sorry, end keeps getting cut out for some reason . Yes, it was merc81, I intend to get that up for sure, honesty not sure why it’s so low, I’m not bad at math but that’s life. I expect to get a ACT Comp of around 28-30, will be doing a lot of prep. As far as pre-vet, yes that’s the general idea but thinking of majoring in a bio just so I’m not cutting off my options for later.

You are definitely qualified for Geneseo. To get into Cornell I suggest you take the SAT again or the ACT and try to score 2100+ for the SAT or 31+ for the ACT. You might get into Cornell with your current stats but you are just below the bottom 25% of admitted students. Either way, Cornell is very difficult to get into and is a reach for most students.

Ok, appreciate the feedback. The SAT math will have to come up, I’m waiting for the score report to see exactly where I screwed up. How much do STEM colleges take math heavy classes like AP Physics into account when their looking at admissions?

Consider membership in the American Pre-Veterinary Medical Association (APVMA).

Consider schools such as Bucknell, Franklin & Marshall, Knox, Muhlenberg, St. Olaf, St. Louis, NYU and Wake Forest.

Geneseo seens like a good option. CALs eventually might be.

Do you have to be an undergraduate in college to be eligible for membership in the APMVA?

Perhaps, so that recommendation may have been premature. However, you could still fill out the application honestly, then see if they accept it.

Ok, sounds good. Just to ballpark it, what would you guys chance my admittance to Geneseo at?

You should be good for Geneseo. Some small chance of denial, which could be eliminated with even slightly improved math testing.

Thanks for your help!
