Just had my Harvard interview - thought I'd share my experience!

I went on here to prepare for my interview but found a lot of varying answers, so I thought I’d do my part to contribute to the CollegeConfidential community and share how it went.

We met at a coffee shop-esque restaurant. He had arrived before I did, so I went over to him (tip #1: Look up a photo of your interviewer ahead of time so you aren’t unsure of who you’re supposed to meet). I introduced myself and, strangely enough, I was the one to start asking questions. We probably spent half or more of the hour and ten minutes on me asking him questions. Some were broad, some were specific (tip #2: Have questions prepared ahead of time, otherwise you’ll be caught off-guard when your interviewer prompts you to ask questions). After about half an hour of that, we transitioned to speaking a bit more about my interests (we fortunately had similar backgrounds in high school extracurriculars, so talking about that was easy).

I had a great experience with my Harvard interview–I hope you all do too!

Best Wishes!

@ilylily112 I absolutely loved my Harvard interview experience as well. Nice to hear. Good luck!

This is a good post for showing that an interview goes both ways: the applicant should be interviewing the school too!

The best interviews I have had have been 2 way conversations. Remember the point of the interview for most schools and for most interviewers isn’t a recitation of the interviewee’s accomplishments but an assessment of how the interviewee will contribute in personal interactions within the school’s community, whether in the classroom, dining hall, room/suite. So in addition to the substance of what the interviewee says and his/her communication skills, how well the interviewee listens and engages in 2 way communications will likely affect the assessment.
