Is it ok to sound like you are nervous during the interview and is it a good sign if the interiew was impressed by all the acitivies that I have done.

I dunno if you could ever be too sure...:)

Could you please tell us when you sent in your app and how long it took for the interviewer to contact you?

it took less than 3 weeks for me to be cotacted for an interview

Were you completely stumped or caught off-guard by any questions? If so, what were they? I was in an interview once (not for college) and they asked me which cartoon character I was most like. I had no idea. I don't really watch a lot of cartoons, and I don't feel kinship with the characters in the ones I do watch. Anything like that?

all of the above and, what did you wear to the interview? formal/semi-formal/borderline casual.....

ideally, you want to sound self-confident in your interview, but it's not necessarily bad to sound nervous, as long as you were still talkative and friendly and still seemed...y'know....not socially retarded, which i'm sure you aren't. :) honestly, interviews don't matter at all....i aced my yale interview (it lasted two hours, he told me i was one of the best he'd ever interviewed, he even called me afterward to talk about some books i'd recommended to him) and got deferred EA, accepted RD....aced my harvard interview (also lasted two hours, my interviewer told me she was really impressed with me), rejected.....absolutely bombed my princeton interview (i was sleep-deprived, felt like i had nothing in common with the interviewer, was really fidgety, kept saying the wrong thing at the wrong time....it was an hour of complete awkwardness) and got accepted. so don't be nervous: interviews are only a supplement to your application....they're not going to decide whether or not you're in or out.

also, as for clothing: what you wear to your interview depends on the setting and the kind of interview....for evaluative interviews (harvard, yale, and princeton, as far as i know), i met my interviewers at the places they worked, and i wore nice black wool pants, a nice button-down collared shirt with a sweater over it (all from Express), nice black heeled boots, and a peacoat (i'm a girl, fyi :) ), along with some minimalist makeup. but for more casual interviews, at a cafe or at the interviewer's house, khakis or (nice) jeans along with a nice shirt/sweater is fine....something with a collar is advisable, and minimalist, classy makeup usually is good too. mostly it's just important to look well put-together....you don't want to show up in torn jeans and a t-shirt.

i wasn't contacted for my SCEA interview until midway through november, although that's quite late for EA....i think usually interviewers contact people towards the beginning of november, as soon as possible after they process your application.

I wore a business suit to my interview, it took place at a local cafe.
My interview only lasted for 45min., is that a bad sign, she told me to only plan for an hour, why were yours 2 hrs.?

She sounded very impressed but she never said that I hope that you get in or good luck, is that a bad sign?
thanks

prolly. my frien 'ds MIT intervfiew lasted 3 hours. but, they ended up talking about space and stuff and got involved in other things... so... it just depends.

what is the average length of an interview, and I mistyped that, she did say good luck.

it depends on the kind of interview, but an average interview lasts about 45 minutes to an hour. (although my brown interview lasted only 20 minutes, and i don't think it went too badly....i'm still not sure what to make of that.....i guess brown is just weird.) probably you did fine....don't stress too much about your interview, because, as i said earlier, it's not going to determine whether or not you get in -- no, not even if you're on the borderline. it really has very little affect on your application....i didn't even set up an interview for columbia (because i really didn't want to go there) even though the interviewer contacted me, and i still got in with a special science recruity scholarship thingy (i forget what it was).

my yale and harvard interviews lasted 2 hours because they went really well. don't be concerned if your interviews don't last that long...they're really not supposed to. but honestly, what it all comes down to is this: do not worry about interviews. they do not determine whether or not you get in. even if you don't feel like you did well, it's NOT going to hurt your application.

just to reiterate, here's how i did in the ivies last year:
interviews i did really well on: yale, harvard
average interviews: upenn, brown
really bad interviews: princeton, columbia

places i was accepted: yale, princeton, columbia
places i was rejected: harvard
places i was waitlisted: brown, upenn <-- note that this is because upenn was a safety for me...the people there realize that hyp students use their school as a safety, so if they think that someone is likely to get in hyp, they might waitlist or reject them because they don't think they're likely to come to upenn.

see? there is NO correlation. seriously.

EDIT: apparently html tags do not work in these forums. oh well.

thanks
the first interview is probably the worst, since you don't know what to expect, but overall I think it went well.

allllison what were your stats, hooks, etc...? How good were your essays...tell us evertything...
