I wanted to start this thread to get peoples opinions on their recent bs interviews, how they went, who it was with, important things that made or broke your interviews. So I guess i'll start with mine. The woman who did it was a field hockey coach there. I think it was great, it was really a good interview. So please share your thoughts and experiences here, especially concerning great schools like St. Pauls!

A couple of caveats to you and other kids interviewing this cycle:

DO NOT mention the date or time of your interview or who you interviewed with…it makes it too easy to determine your identity, which you really want to keep private until at least after M10.

DO NOT share any details of what you were asked/how you responded if they will they can help ID you.

DO NOT interpret anything an interviewer says as overly positive or negative. Just because someone says “I could really see you doing well at a school like Exoverhotchfield Hall” does not mean you will be admitted.

Not trying to be a wet blanket, just trying to dole out some parental advice from someone who’s been through this before.

Oh my gosh, my SPS interview was with the same lady! I also started field hockey this fall and fell in love with it too!

Obviously, you guys are too excited to pay attention to parental advice We too visited SPS along with several other BS in NE, and they provided one of the best, if not the best, interview/tour experiences. Too many positive things to say it all here… I’m sorry you didn’t get to visit in person, but please do make sure to do so if you get admitted.

I hear this kind of comments often here, but has anyone really been identified and negatively affected? I agree it’s good to exercise precautions, but doubted whether AOs really do bother to read CC for any recognizable candidates.

Actually, the students are helping their cause. St. Paul’s, as with most elites, loves to know that they’re the first choice of applicants.

@Axelrod Which they are, I focused too much on the top of the top last year and got rejected, but as I researched about SPS I found that I really liked it the more I read up on it.

@SharingGift Thanks for your condolences, my parents and I knew that I would have to miss 3 days of school just for the interview, so it was easier to Skype, which I’m sad about it but hey, maybe M10 I’ll be gushing about finally seeing it in September ;)

@preplvr22 Are you applying this year or already in SPS, and that is really cool! Who knows, we could be SPS fockey buddies :D

SPS & Andover topped the list with respect to elite college placement.

From which schools were you rejected ? Which schools are the top of the top ? An all boys school in Boston led the study (Roxbury Latin, I think), but St. Paul’s was number two & Andover number three. Do you know of any boarding schools (Roxbury Latin is a day school) with better college placement than St. Paul’s & Andover ?

Many regard SPS as the top boarding school in the English speaking world. Do you know differently ?

bsroxmysox: I am applying this year:) what grade are you in? Maybe we could be SPS fockey buddies!

I’m an SPS parent and alum, and huge SPS fan. For those interested in SPS feel free to PM me and I’d be glad to answer questions as best I can.

@preplovr22 I’m applying for 10th grade as I was waitlisted at St. Paul’s last year

@friendlymom haha i like the approachable username, definetly going to PM you if I’m accepted :)

@Axelrod Well let’s review the uber-long list from which I was rejected from last year (although it was probably my SSAT score because I got a 78%…) Lawrenceville, Andover, Milton, St. Paul’s, Hotchkiss, Deerfield and another school I can’t remember. I was just saying for me, I feel like the top of the top are basically HADES, plus the other ones I applied to.

No way! I am also applying for the 10th grade! I am taking the SSAT in a few weeks (December test) and hope I will do okay! Your list from last year seems very similar to mine (Andover, Exeter, SPS, Deerfield, Milton and Lville)! Where all are you applying this year?

OP: There was something else in your application that caused the adverse results. A recruited athlete with a 78% SSSAT would receive at least two acceptances despite being well below the average SSAT score.

@Axelrod Oh no, I only did field hockey this year I wasn’t really doing anything last year. Which was why I probably wasn’t accepted to…any schools lol.

@preplovr22 What. I’m taking the December 8th test too!!! I’m just applying to SPS and Episcopal Church this year, not many this time.

@bsroxmysox I see you live in md, did you consider any Baltimore schools

@Armylaxmom No, my parents (and I, of course) wanted me to apply to the best schools, but most of them are pretty far. But it’s okay that it’s far away.

I already visited SPS. i thought the campus and tour was really beautiful and insightful but the interview just kinda went awkwardly. The interviewer only asked me 3 or 4 questions total and sounded like that they werent really interested in learning about me even though we had never met before… This was sort of different from my other interviews that went pretty well. Should i be worried? Its just SPS was my favorite school of all and i feel like this bad interview might have jeopardized it.

My DD had the same experience at her SPS interview and she’s a student there now. Conversely, at other schools she had some terrific interviews and ended up not getting in. I wouldn’t get overly worried because 1) the interview is one of many pieces they consider; 2) it might have been better than you thought; and 3) you can’t change it now anyway! The application has lots of questions and you can let them know who you are through that.

Exactly, so there’s no really no use worrying about it. I know I made some mistakes in my interview but what’s done is done, and all I can do is keep my my grades and do well on the December SSAT. :)

@SharingGift: While you’re probably right that AOs most likely aren’t stalking CC, there have been a few instances over the past few years where I’ve seen an AO come on and post something. One was an Andover person, who, IIRC, posted something to clarify policy on something or other. So, they do come here.

Part of my motivation is to try and protect kids from sharing too much info about themselves here (especially when they are in the application phase). See this thread (http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/prep-school-admissions/427714-if-youre-new-cc-please-read-before-posting.html).

But more than that, I was just trying to ensure kids/parents don’t get their hopes up too high (or spirits too low) from one interview.

To Axelrod’s point, I do think the schools want to know that you are their first choice. I don’t know that an online forum is the place to make that point. And, and as I saw firsthand two years ago, what starts as a first choice can fall quickly from favor.

I agree with you about being discrete, especially before M10. But with all the social media like facebook, instagram, etc., more damages are being done over there than here. At least, you can hide behind username on CC.:)
