I'm probably thinking of becoming a chemical engineer, and I hear that ND is only okay for that.

So...just how good is the chemical engineering program or the engineering department in general?

Thanks!

ND is growing, little by little in terms of engineering. They just built a 70 million dollar building and so they are trying to attract top notch professors. I am an engineering major and I would have to say that i chose ND because it was ND and not just b/c of the fact that ND was the right place for me ---- if you are going strictly off of engineering programs, I would say that ND wouldn’t be in the top 25 and maybe it would be somewhere like 30-40 but that may be generous – it is climbing steadily but it still will take a little while.

i would visit and see if you fall into ND — ND has a way of selecting its students for them.

also local schools are better for engineering like a Purdue for example.

It’s been awhile, but I will add my 2 cents:

We have a recent Engineering grad and while ND may not be ranked in the top 10 or more of Engineering programs, as hawkswim has indicated, there appears to be a push to make this program top-notch. The new buildings are fabulous!

As to engineering grads, our own grad had no problems garnering top internships and ultimately full time employment with a top Engineering firm in the country. All of the top firms seem to be represented during career fairs, etc. You might consider speaking with someone in the career center to gauge ND’s employment history of engineers. We truly believe that the combination of work experience that our graduate gained during undergrad as well as the ND name (alum connections) along with willingness to relocate, helped with securing a full time position upon graduation. The support from Professors, other students and alums, and career center were excellent at ND. No regrets all the way around!
