I've heard of some people trying to make appeals for their UC admissions, but just how successful are they? Are they pretty slim? (Especially to UCLA).

Honestly, it depends on how good your appeal is. Your appeal needs to present some new information that wasn't already on your application, such as proof of why you didn't do well in certain classes (i.e. illness, etc).

i heard from my teacher the chance on getting in after appeal is 1%

I found it very easy to get into Berkeley on an appeal. They really stress that they need "significant new information" to consider your appeal, but i didnt have anything new to tell them and mine was accepted. I dont know if this is the case with other universities, but I think that if you just really plead your case and stress on what you have done to prepare for the school, you should have a good chance.

that's good your appeal went through Natalie :)
I'm so scared for next year, applying to UCLA this year, if I don't get in, I feel like my world will be crushed..

but yeah I'd still try appeal if I don't get in..

Like when I turned in my UC apps, I was still crazy with the extracurriculars and academics in the hopes of having new information for a possible appeal. Yet I never really needed it, everything was fine really (I was just a bit paranoid). In any case, do not worry Yams. Mark my words...You shall get into UCLA + UCB hands down.

That's good that you prepared it all well Cardinal :) , just never know when the worse would come. You can say I'm pretty paranoid now as well.

If you don't get into Berkeley, I am personally dropping out and giving you my spot :)

Lmao, yeah right! :p I was checking on assist.org for peace and security studies at Berkeley, some name huh? (global studies at UCLA) The requirements are so different from the ones that I have to take for UCLA :/ I don't know what I could do, I think I'd have about 3-4 missing classes. That sounds like a lot..

^ It was the same for me and the English requirements...I ended up doing most of the UCLA requirements (well all of them) because my gf at the time was going there and I thought I would be going there. ha, needless to say, I am at Cal (so I think it would be best to do pre-reqs from both schools unless you are dead set on either Cal or UCLA)

P.S. I am completely ready to sacrifice my spot at Cal for you...I only really wanted to transfer out of my cc so I could get a facebook

maybe you mean peace and conflict studies

Hey Yams...where do you find a list of what classes you shouuld take at a CC to prepare for the Global STudies major at UCLA? I tried looking on Assist.org but it says it's not available.

^ they might have no articulation agreements. Not sure.

Socalgirl11:
Yeah they don't have it on assist but the UCLA counselour I asked told me it's very similiar to International Development Studies, in terms of the requirements. He also gave me a booklet of majors and what you need to take for requirements. They have this on the UCLA website as well.

Global Studies

one course in introduction to globalization
one course in statistics
two years of a modern foreign language

a total of five additional courses, with no more than two from any of the following categories
1) sociocultural anthropology, cultural geography, global music, or world literature
2) contemporary world history, comparative or world politics, political theory, or introduction to sociology
3) introduction to micro or macroeconomics or economic geography

Cardinal:
Haha, yeah sucks that the CC's don't have emails for facebook, oh well. I was a little bit disappointed as first, seeing all my friends having facebooks, but I'm just w/e now about it. It's hard to juggle cal requirements also because i taking required science classes for pre-vet, all that stuff. So far it looks like UCLA and UCSD are my best bet..

Very successful if you have a CC senior member write you a recommendation. :D
