Just like my last chances thread only with rankings

Hi, this is Prepyhopeful924 again!

Instead of just saying my chances, would you, the posters, be willing to rate the schools I am applying to as saftey, match, reach and high reach? This would be a great help.

For those who have not seen my last post, these are my stats...

I am a caucasian 8th grader from Groton Massachusetts who is applying to the following schools...

Brooks School
Deerfield Academy
Groton School
Middlesex School
Phillips Andover Academy
Phillips Exeter Academy
St. Mark's School
St. Paul's School

I applied for finacial aid but do not expect to recieve any do to a statement from the SSS stating my Mom could pay full tuition.

As far as a family backround, which I'm sure doesn't really matter, my parents have been divorced for 4 years. I don't really see my dad, maybe once every 3-4 weeks, but he only lives 10 minutes away in downtown Groton. My mom went to Bentley College, and is a VP at Fidelity Investments, and my Dad didn't go to college and used to be a Janitor. he doesn't work anymore though. We are Roman Catholic, but do not really practice it much.

Accademically, these are my stats...

I attend my local middle school, which is one of the top districts in Massachusetts. The courses I take are...

Algebra I
Art
Pysical Education
Spanish
Science
Language Arts
U.S. History
Chorus

The only advanced course my school offers is Algebra instead of Pre-Algebra
Overall, I think my school is incredibly easy but it is supposed to be "good"

My average grades in 6th grade were 96
They were 94 in 7th grade
This year, my average is a 97

This grades are all considered high honor roll in my school, but I din't think that really matters.

On the SSAT, I scored a 65 in reading, a 81 in verbal, and an 86 in math.
--My overall score was in the 81st percentile.

My academic awards include....

My academic summer camps include...
-2 sessions of robotics at Lawrence Academy, a local boarding school
-1 session of MIT computer camp where I made a website about the history of the Boston skyline and the effects skyscrapers have on the econemy, culture, and global trade.

My reccomendations shoud be great.
-I have one from my art teacher who teahces at Lawrence Academy and knows headmasters, teachers and board members at these schools.
-I also have one from my Cello teacher who teaches at Groton School

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Brooks School--High Match
Deerfield Academy--High Reach
Groton School--Reach, though perhaps high reach since you're applying for day
Middlesex--Low Reach/High Match
Phillips Academy Andover--High Reach
Phillips Exeter Academy--High Reach
St. Mark's School--Match
St. Paul's School--High Reach

Thank for your help prettyckitty. I expected such.

Would groton really be a high reach if I know a lot of the faculty and my Cello teacher works there? He did a reccomendation for me.

Andover,Exeter,SPS and Deerfield are very difficult, but possible. The interview is quite important at all of these schools. Reading may be too low for SPS-but that is up to SPS. Best chance at Exeter of the four due to need aware admissions. Others likely if you interview well.

That might balance out being a day student, making it more of a plain reach, or, depending on the pull of those people and how well they know you, a low reach.

Ok thank you both! This is much more helpful then the last thread I started!

My situation is a little better then i thought!

You will receive several offers of admission. These schools are excellent at determining matches! All of them know what they are doing. Have faith and patience and you will be offered the appropriate opportunities!

An 81 indicates sufficient intelligence to attend law school, medical school or MBA school-if you like those fields and do the work. You are highly intelligent!

At the interview most schools want to hear and see enthusiasm, modesty and kindness and respect for others. Be yourself and you will get appropriate matches.

Your cello teacher will not get you into Groton. Teachers write hundreds of letters every year for friends, relatives, etc. and can not possibly get all of them in. However, of the top schools I think Groton is your best chance because the (and all schools) have a commitment to take a certain number of locals and I don't think Groton gets the number of locals applying an Andover does.

I also think you have a reasonable chance at Brooks and St. Marks if you wrote a good application.

Well Thank You Garrity!!!! You and Chaos Theory have the two most positive attitudes on this website from what I have read! Where do you go to school, or where are you applying??

Thank you suze. I know it won't get me in, I was just wondering if it improves you're chances. I didn't know they did so many recs. Wow, these teachers must be really busy in November and December.

I am an adult with a lot of experience in this field. My son attends one of the elite boarding schools, and I have significant experience with many boarding schools and colleges.

Excellent! In Garrity, we have found such a grand opportunity to learn more about boarding school admissions. And of course, what better experience exists than experienced experience! :D I, for one, will not relent in bombarding Garrity with questions. :)

Oh, sorry. I didn't mean to assume you were an adolescent, I just never read a post saying that you were an adult before. Wher does your son attend? Does he enjoy it?

What do you think the admission commitees looks for Garity?

I apologize, but i feel that that would be a slight intrusion on my son's privacy. He loves his school and is in his last year. All of these schools have different "personalities"-do not get hung up on prestige-find the one most comfortable for you, or,rather, let them find you.

Good advice Garrity. Sorry if I seemed obtrusive.

Anyone else like to give there opinion? I would really apreciate it!
