Just one essay for Harvad Supp right?

There was another thread saying that people could put in more than one essay into the harvard supplement. That's not true right?

Well, it is possible if you have more than one essay on a Word document, of course. It is best not to exceed four essays, however - or three if they focus around the same topic.

But that would be like 500 times 3 words!

1500 words? Really?

Anything beyond the suggested single essay better be amazing.

I find it interesting that you still refer to the university as “Harvad University”. Are you aware that what is now known as Harvard used to be called Harvad and was intentionally changed under the rule of the Knights Templar?

^ right. Thanks Dan Brown, I appreciate your extremely sound historical knowledge.

I sent three essays myself. one in common app and two in supplement - i got them in one word document and uploaded them

Basically, an applicant can do really whatever they want. The real question is how will admissions feel about an applicant who sends unsolicited content. If you really want Harvard’s opinion, I would call admissions and ask. Getting input from CC members can be good but they are still just opinions or reports of other CCers own actions.

The quote that goes around out there about college admissions is the “Thicker the folder the thicker the applicant”. More is not always better and can tick or the AC. You have two opportunities to add to your Harvard application. The first is the “additional info” of the Common AP and the second is the “optional essay” of the Harvard Supplement.

statement from supplement about essays, note the singular “an”:

and actually the common ap does not actually suggest an “additional essay”;

Anything beyond those two opportunities would fall into the “supplement” category.

Here is Harvard’s own words about supplementary material:

Now sticking with my original comment that what you are getting here (from me as well as others), I strongly suggest that you contact admissions.

Just because other applicants have included additional essays does not mean that it was actually a good idea.

In my daughter’s case, she applied EA to Yale. When she got the deferment, she contacted her AC about sending an additional essay to be used in their final decision (note: this essay was read by a Harvard english graduate who was a current Yale grad student. He had read her other essays but said this new one was her best piece of writing to date). Yale grudgingly said yes and she sent it in. She was rejected on March 31.

For Harvard, she send the two suggested essays (500 and <600 each) and attached a resume (I know those are debated also but it actually was the only was to convey her ECs). She was accepted there.

what do you mean by two suggested essays? so we can submit 2 additional essays?
