Just out of curiosity, anyone here with low stats but excellent sat got into a good schools like the ivies, MIT, Stanford etc.? What i mean by low stats is that you have a <4.0 uw gpa, little extracurricular, few ap courses etc. I want to see how much impact the SAT has over other academic stuff. Feel free to throw in other stuff that you think probably had a big impact on your college application.

Thanks

I doubt that many of these applicants exist.

<4.0 uw is considered low now?

Lol. And it's unweighted too! I have a feeling that the OP meant <<4.0 weighted.

I should have mentioned. I meant like an average between 3.5 and 4.0

@aaa12321

I was considering <4.0 uw low because it is kind of low for ivies and other top colleges.

I don't know anyone whose SAT score saved them from otherwise subpar performance in HS. Top colleges receive more than enough applications from students who are superlative in every respect.

< 4.0 uw is not low for top colleges or Ivies.

If anything I'd say "kind of low for Ivies and top colleges" is around 3.6, 3.7.

4.0 uw is not low. There is NO way to get above that uw that I can think of right now. Am I missing something?

Colleges don't put that much importance on the SAT any more. A good SAT score can mean a lot of things, from someone who's a good test-taker to some kid whose parents spent a lot of money on courses and tutoring to bump that score up.

That being said, a good SAT score can help, but it isn't an auto-admit to a top school like it may have been a few...decades ago.

I actually have high GPA low SAT, but some guy in our school was the lazy kind. He was good at tests but that's about it.

Itihkn he had about a 3.8ish gpa unweighted and a 2300+ SAT. HE got into UCBerkeley

it also depends upon the school. a rigorous private may not even have a candidate with a 4.0 uw whereas many publics do.

lol your LAZY friend h a 3.8?

lamest excuses possible, yet you hear them so often.

I have a 2.5UW GPA with like a 2030 SAT and I know myself I have no shot at an Ivy League.

I'm applying a few UC's though. :P

I myself am very interested in this topic. I have a 3.5-3.6 uw, no ecs except for work and a 2360. I'd like to know how others with similar stats fared. I'd put myself in the "good test-taker" category
