Just out of curiosity...

To all the Midshipmen and wannabe midshipmen like me,
What field do you want to go into after you graduate USNA (Surface Warfare, Subs, SEAL, etc.)

if I get in and finish the four years without dying I'd be extremely interested in SEALs and Marine Aviation (especially choppers). The SEALs are so well trained and utilized that being a SEAL would feel like a much more valuable contribution. And I've heard of Marine Chopper Pilots being transferred to the Night Stalkers (the Chopper Pilots from Blackhawk Down) and they are some of the best in the world. (any supporting evidence???). The main reason I'm choosing to apply to USNA is the variety of billets they offer compared to USAFA and USMA. I know I want to go into the Armed Forces, but what exactly I want to do is still uncertain.

GOOD QUESTION-

The Army has "choppers", the Navy and Marine Corps has helos/helicopters.

Aviation or Subs (stuck between the 2 at the moment).

Maybe it would help to refer you here
Common Career Choices

I really want to go SEALs, but if that doesn't work out I will try to go EOD or diving.

I'm shaky on SEALs too. The physical side is one thing, If you want to go to BUDS then you have extra PT at the Academy that get's you ready. It's the mental side that weeds most out, I've heard in hell week that the trainees get so tired that their eyes don't shut when they sleep and they shake so bad they fall off their racks.

ps- sorry about the chopper-helo mixup. I've heard the boys out of Fort Campbell, Kentucky can do some amazing things with those whirly-birds :)

Marine Corps Ground (Infantry)

Zaner, the 160th SOAR, aka the "Night Stalkers", is an Army aviation unit. Marines fly other marines.

Space!! But before that Naval Aviation.

I've heard of special transfers. Special Ops gets the best and if they have to go marines then they do.

^^^zanderdude, check your sources. Don't think things work quite this way. Marines (capitalized) are Marines and Army is Army. Maybe an occasional exchange duty but I'm not sure about this though.

The only thing I can think of that Zanderdude may be referring to is the change two or three years ago that lumped a few battalions of Marines in with SOCOM. I am shaky on the details of how that works, only that the Marine Corps resisted the change for years... oh and by the way, I think both services will try to lay claim as best helo pilots in the world... i.e., we land on moving platforms

You're talking about MARSOC. It is our answer to the Green Berets. They are basically Recon guys who train insurgencies and do direct action for SOCOM.

Marine Corps Infantry or SEALs but who knows four years is a long ways could change by then.

Marine Corps Infantry or possibly Marine Corps Aviation

I've always said that I'd like to be in some type of combat position, but I'll keep my mind open to see what's out there. My mentality is that it's most important that there's nothing I really wouldn't want to do.

i would really really really love to go naval aviation..but of course i understand you don't always get what you want, so i'll be open to anything..

Just watched Top Gun again and it really makes you want to be a pilot. WOW!

i really want helo's. any kind really, but i prefer the seahawk, so i'm going for either Naval Aviation or Marine Corps Air.

My top three are SWO, Naval Aviation or Marine Corps Aviation, though I'm open to anything either Navy or Marine Corps.
