Just tell me the thruth on this PLEASE its all i think about

I have no clue. sorry… There was a thread about it on the parents forum a few weeks back.

You are looking at the stats incorrectly – you don’t need to know how many of Andover grads get into Stanford, what you need to know is how many members of Stanford’s current freshman class come from Andover. My guess is less than 1% – which means that there are many other schools where you can be successful and be admitted to Stanford.

Take a look at the matriculation data of the schools (usually available with a google search). If they have any students admitted to Stanford, Harvard, Yale, etc in the past few years, then it is a possibility.

ya they had 43 people go to stanford… as far as i know schools if lucky get one or two that go

correction its been 43 since 2004… but still thats a lot

is there any HEAD that has rolling?

Everyone (even those who claim not to have rolling) have late applications. It is like applying to the waitlist, and it is doubtful that heads gcm will take too many off the wl. You can try, though.

i will i mean i feel like im above average cause of my extra curriculars… the thing that i wish i could do somehow is put my times for track and cross country… im sure that would motivate them to accept me

Sebas, you have it all wrong. Where you end up going to college is not a function of where you go to secondary school. If you have the determination and the capacity to go to Stanford, you will go there whether you attend Andover or your local public. As a matter of fact, maybe you will stand a better chance being the Val or the Sal at your local school than being in the top quintile at Andover. Students are very very misled by the matriculation stats that boarding schools release. Many of those accepted at top schools are legacies or URM’s or recruited athletes. I suggest that you confront reality head on. It is you that the colleges are going to admit, not the school that you attend.

I also do varsity track and cross country. I am not sure how much it helps, but it has got me through. While I do not want to discourage you, most boarding school applicants have stats such as yours. Check out the “chances” forum.

edit: Pan, where’s hmom when you need her!

actually believe it or not I go to Cypress Bay… i dont know if youve seen the show The Paper on MTV… ya that school my graduating class is ridicoulously genius for some reason… my girlfriend has a 4.9 GPA and shes not even top 50

what you run just couriosity?? and what grade are you in

Does that not mean that it is grade inflated? I find it stupid how people have (including myself) such high GPAs. There are many schools as good or better than Cyprus. Either way Andover is harder than CB, no doubt.

Cypress Bay in Coral Gables (Miami) Florida?

ya like a honors or gifted class brings it up .25 and an AP brings it up .5 and its the overall average of every year… so next year if i stay, ill take four ap’s so its possible to get a 6.0 GPA in a quater… i know i think its absurd too like im on the block schedule so the rank is such BS

Weston, FL its a small city but somehow we had the most students in the nation last year no lie you couldnt walk throught he halls we had like 5500 student it was ridicoulous

Why would you want to leave sunny Broward County to go to frigid north shore Massachusetts? If you are at the top at Cypress Bay you will go to any college that you wish.

AND YOU WILL SAVE $50,000 x 2 = $100,000.

If his GF had a 4.9 and was not in top 50, I do not know how colleges will take that.

When it’s possible for students to get GPAs above 4.0, it just doesn’t make any sense. On a 4.0 scale, 4.0 is as high as one should be able to achieve. My current school, a private school in the UK, offers all the APs and advanced classes that you’d expect, but it does not weight grades. It also does not give A+ grades, meaning if you get a 97% or above as a grade, it’s still an A. Universities seem to respect this system. Our Valedictorian last year had a GPA of 3.89 and got into Stanford, Johns Hopkins, Princeton, Rice, and the list goes on.

I think a 4.9 is just grade inflation at work.

hahaha ya i agree but the thing with american education is that if you concentrate only in your studies, you can get a 4.0 GPA… Well her unwieghted GPA is 4.0, and shes not even top 50 so i guess thats their way of figuring out who to rank what
