I'm speaking on behalf of a friend. He's currently a senior in HS, and recently got rejected from UMass Amherst. He got accepted to UMass Lowell, and I was wondering if its possible for him to transfer from UMass lowell to UMass Amherst after one semester in freshmen year?

I'm aware that they will still look at HS stats if he applies for a transfer that early, but my cousin was able to transfer from Umass boston to umass dartmouth after just one semester in freshmen year. So I just want to verify/hear your opinions on the chances.

Thanks!

Honestly, there’s a very slim chance of that happening. Although they are both part of UMass, they are two entirely different schools. Boston and Dartmouth are much more similar than Lowell/Boston/Dartmouth and Amherst. I believe you’d have a decent chance of transferring after one year but a semester is too soon. With that said, your SAT scores and GPA will probably influence how fast you’re able to transfer. For example, if you were very close to being accepted at UMass Amherst (let’s say you had a 3.0 GPA and 1700 SAT score) then there’s obviously a greater chance of you being accepted after one semester.

Good luck!
