I am in my first semester of sophomore year at UMass Dartmouth as a crime and justice major and am looking to transfer to UMass Amherst for this spring. I did terrible in high school with a 2.6 but here at umd I have a 3.46, made dean's list twice, and am doing a little bit better this semester as well which might boost it up a little. I forget what I got on my SAT's but it was nothing special and just about average. I am applying to be a sociology major and back in high school was in a few different clubs and played 4 different varsity sports throughout my time there. I applied in high school and obviously didn't get in. I am in-state and heard that it is easier to get in since now I am already in the UMass system (umass dartmouth) so I was just wondering if anyone else has been in my shoes before or thinks I will get in. Thanks!

I’m pretty sure UMass will put more weight on your college stats if you are a first semester sophomore. 3.5 is their cutoff for the Commonwealth (honors college), so a 3.46 is not bad at all. They’ll only look at your HS stats if you have fewer than 27 credits. Also, I assume you’re looking to transfer for Fall 2011, since the spring semester deadline was October 1st, so you’ll have time to bring it up even more if you want to.

Also, this is directly from the website:
"Campuses in Boston, Dartmouth, and Lowell
If you are an enrolled degree-seeking student at the UMass Boston, Dartmouth, or Lowell campuses who wishes to transfer as a degree-seeking student to the Amherst campus, you may apply under the Interchange Transfer program. To be eligible, you must be in good academic and financial and disciplinary standing at all previously attended colleges, have completed 12-15 credits full-time with a 2.5 cumulative grade point average, and be currently enrolled in 12-15 credit hours. If you meet these eligibility requirements, no application fee is required. "

I don’t think you’ll have a problem transferring, between coming from another UMass institution and with a 3.46 (by the way, are you active in the UMass Dartmouth community at all?). Good luck!

I applied back in September so I’m shooting for the spring it just took me a while to get my transcripts through. Talked to UMass Amherst admissions today and every is complete I’m just playing the waiting game. And at umd I’m not in any clubs or anything so no I guess I’m not active here, thanks for responding!

let us know what the verdict is, im in the same situation as you looking to apply there fall 2011
