Hey everyone, Im a junior right now and my gpa so far is 3.8 (not including junior year). I was just wondering do u guys think i can still get into UCSD. I really want to get in senior year. I did really well freshmen year but sophomore I didnt do as well. I got like a 3.75 gpa sophomore year. Also do you guys know if UCSD looks at your gpa with the honors credit or without?

Keep your grades high and you'll be fine in that area....but realize GPA is just a small part of the admissions process.

Yeah, they look at way more than GPA. On the application, there is just one little box to put GPA. But there is a whole PAGE to show your class history, and another page for extracurricular activites. Sports, jobs, volunteering, hobbies. Also, I don't think "honors" (Like Honors English 10?) credit is the same as AP credit. With AP grades, you can get more than a 4.0

UC certifies some honors classes at some California high schools for extra credit - your school should know if the ones you took qualify for extra GPA credit. But remember, only 8 semesters of extra GPA credit are added for UC gpa, and only 10th & 11th grade is counted.

to tell you the truth the average gpa is around a 4.0.

do some extracurriculars and you might be ok

It's all done by points. So if you have a high GPA even if it's below the average GPA, the points will help with the score.

Here's a hint. Try to make your community service hours add to be above 200+ for at least 300 points. And oh, if you're from a poor school you get an automatic 300 points. If you have a single mom/dad you get 150 points. Isn't that sad?

So it's totally objective. They don't care if you've been in something for 8 years, cause it'll only be considered as 300-500 points on their scale.

I didn't get into UCSD the first time because of the comprehensive review score. So I appealed in an effort to gain myself for more points.

Try to find the comprehensive review score table, it should be around here.

kluge: just wondering, wut do u mean only 8 semesters of honors count ? Can you please clarify me on that and I do have everything else. Volunteer, piano, national table tennis player, Chinese school, and kung-fu. So wut you guys think about my gpa. I mean its only a 3.8 so far but i think i can get it up to a 3.9 by the end of junior year. thnx for all your guys' input.

Only 8 semesters count meaning that you can weight up to 8 of your honors semesters - 4 yearlong courses, 8 semester courses, or any such combination - with the higher gpa. Past that, everything is on a 4 scale.

:)

Also, my gpa is with honors credit, so As in honors classes count as 5 pts rather than 4.

Ok, what you'd have to do then is go through your transcript and drop all but 8 of those 5's to a 4.0. When you recalculate, you'll get the UC gpa (someone please correct me if I'm mistaken).

:)

Umm please correct me if Ive misunderstood but i have taken 1 honors sophomore year and im going to take 3 honors junior year, so is that 8 semesters exactly?

yep that's right =)

So thats the max that i can have?

Also im wondering hows the UC gpa different from our regular gpa and which ones do they use to evaluate you?
