If you guys think screwing around or cutting lose every once in a while is so unprofessional, you guys have a lot to learn about soldiers, because I promise you, one must have a sense of humor to make it through West Point or in the Army for that matter.

At the same time that I think that the activities are very unprofessional, I think it'd be kinda fun to get into a massive pillow fight.

Change that to "I think that the activities are not at the pinnacle of professionalism, I think it'd be kinda fun".....

Yes airborne101, everyone is entitled to cut loose every once in a while, and you do need to have a sense of humor in the Army (I learned that real quick with the recruiters and the Future Soldiers Program). Please do not interperet my words as saying otherwise.

Interesting...that sure looks like the commandant General Caslen (Commandant's Webpage) in the first part of the Roxbury video, saying "the Corp has". I guess he doesn't find the videos unprofessional or he wouldn't be in one. JMO.

Spirit videos are a thing of tradition. Anything that provides some output of humor and creativity is encouraged, especially if it makes fun of Navy.

WAMom68- I agree, and I do not find the videos unprofessional either.

I think the trap that a lot of candidates fall into is thinking that the USMA is ALL Duty, Honor, Country. You have to remember that we're college kids at the same time, and have to cut loose sometimes. We're not toy soldiers, on display all the time. I've seen the craziest of Cadets here at USMA become the perfect image of professionalism and class when off-post at an official function, or interacting with civilians. It's knowing how/when to turn it on and turn it off. Believe it or not, we're people too, even though West Point might have you think otherwise...

West Point is a great place with its own pitfalls, but I honestly can say that coming here was the best decision of my life.

And those of you that don't know me (ie candidates), I'm a Cow (Junior) here, so I've had a few more years of West Point fun than the Plebes.

Marines4me: it has been such a pleasure to watch you grow and mature over the years. It seems like yesterday that you were weighing your other options (Georgetown ROTC if I recall correctly?). It is so good to hear that your end decision was "the best decision of my life." Thank you for sharing your insight.

Ann,

You took the words right out of my mouth (fingers?).

m4m,

I also recall some of your plebe year comments that left me with a Stephen King feeling. I'm glad to see practicality and maturity along with the confidence that you made the right decision.
(Also, I think you know my daughter. If you see her, tell her 'Mom says get some sleep'. :D )
