what do you specifically mean when you are asking for a club?, since i dont think that there is a club site listed on UCI, but i am saying this based on the fact that club, as in a dance place where college parties are held. However, there are plenty around here.

I actually meant if UCI has a website with clubs such as chess club, or biking club. or something haha. I am interested in this hip hop club that I guess has a very good reputation at UCI and was trying to find some information on it.

During the week before school starts, Aldrich Park is filled with every club and greek out there. Look for your desired club and sign up for more info. UCI is known to have really good dance teams so you may want to look those up. If you google LTD Vibe, you can see a big part of UCI's culture.

I had a quick question about the dorms as well. Is it all co-ed dorms? And how much do I have to pay as an international student? I know it says on the website, but I'm pretty sure there's those extra fees that the university doesn't mention. How is UC Davis? I also got accepted there as well.

KadyaSayzWhat, you said: "My friend who is a business econ major, and is in the school os social sciences told me that most people who dont cut it for their major transfer over to the school of social sciences because it is so much easier, hence it is one of the largest schools on campus."

is that a good thing or a bad thing?

it seems like poli sci may be too easy and it isn't a respectable major at uci?

i'm planning on applying to law schools after uci, so a good gpa is really important to me, so the easier the better. however, if poli sci is so easy, is it not respected as a legitimate major?

BerriEri: There is an all-girls dorm located in Middle Earth called Rivendell. A friend of mine who is an international student says that she pays around $8000 per quarter but next year it will go up to around $8500 to $9000 with the raise in fees. About UC Davis...I can't really tell you much about it. What kind of program are you looking into for Davis? If you give me a major or a program you want to go into, I could give you a more specific answer.

TheBrian:
Poli Sci is actually a very respectable major here. Just because it is easier than other majors such as biology or engineering, it doesn't mean that it is an easy way out. Although my friend (an econ major) has said that econ majors specialize in free time.
It's a legitimate major, especially for law school, and the social science school here at UCI is one of the biggest schools at the university.

i was wondering if you knew how the admissions work. my friends and I appealed to UCI and they already gotten their response but i haven't and its been one whole week. is this a good thing or bad thing?

oh and whats the difference between middle earth and mesa?

kapb6257:
About Middle Earth vs. Mesa Court: I like Mesa Court...but I may be biased since I live here. Also, my building's a bit newer so our rooms are pretty big. I've only gone to the CHP hall in Middle Earth before and it was tiny. If the buildings were a bit newer and not as cramped, I'd probably like Middle Earth better. They seem to have better activities than we do and the people seem nicer too. Really...it's based on preference, I'd recommend taking the housing tour so you can see it for yourself.
And also, Middle Earth is really, really, really close to most classes...especially the science/engineering ones. My buildling may as well be off campus, it's pretty far but I enjoy the walk most of the time (unless I'm late -_-)
About appeals...can't help you there, sorry.

If you haven't received any word yet, then you still have the possibility to get in. Just sit back and keep waiting. Do something to get your mind off admissions.

Those tuition raises are terrible.
How is the studying abroad program at UCI? I wish to be a foreign exchange student in, possibly, my second year of college to better my english.

I agree that the tuition raises are bad, but we all have to pay fees to attend a public university, plus in the end it all benefits California, so there is not much one can say if you grew up here and plan to work and live here. However for those who are from out of state, it is a bit more pricey. The study abroad program is really good, and if you study English over here, you should be able to pick up on most of the slang. Once you are able to understand the difference between say sarcasm and straightforwardness, you can really tell that you know the English language just as well us over here in the States.
I would encourage you to come here and try it out, and come over here to the States, and experience a different life style and different atmosphere that what you are used to.

Mesa Court is located further from campus and is kind of detached, while Middle Earth is located smack dab on campus. Mesa Court has more halls with bigger rooms, which does make a difference. Middle earth is an older community and although it has newer dorms, Mesa has more dorms which are newer. If you have any specific questions regarding housing, then post them, and i will do the best i can to answer

If it eases your mind, then i would call them to see what is going on, but don't except any sort of real answer over the phone, since they are not allowed to tell you about something due to confidentiality, as well as the fact that they themselves may not know. So other than calling you can visit UCI's admin dept regarding appeals and the admissions, or just wait till you get a letter either way.

For the writing requirement, do all students have to take the writing placement exam? I thought I had read somewhere that if you had gotten a 4 on an AP English exam, you bypass the placement exam. What's the deal with that?

Also, I'm looking to transfer to UCLA after two years or USC after one; should I be looking at major requirements at the respective schools and take those classes?

do kids actually get into medical school from UCI? because i know this sound ridiculous but on facebook all i see is Stanford and Berkeley kids getting in to UCSF USC and UCLA med school. uci and ucsd kids didnt seem to have a high acceptance rate. wat do u observe there?

UCSF, USC, and UCLA med school are top universities so it's normal for students from the top schools to get in. However, there are many students who get into medical school after UCI or UCSD. Some do go to the top universities and some go to others. The reality is a low percentage of med school hopefuls get into medical school. What is the difference of having less UCI/UCSD students going to UCSF, USC, and UCLA? It doesn't hinder you at all. If you want to make it to medical school you need to be serious and work hard.

Middle Earth is the closest to the social sciences buildings at uci. However it is not that far from Mesa either, Middle Earth is just closer. I dont suggest that you limit yourself and choose where you live based on where classes are, since you may have classes everywhere else even if they pertain to Social Sciences.
