I just received an email from the Kaplan Humanities Scholars Program inviting me to apply. I'm considering transferring to engineering, so if I don't have a pretty good shot of getting into this program then I won't take the time to apply, and I've heard this program is highly selective. On the other hand, if I have a good shot at getting in, I may as well have another option in case I decide not to transfer; this program seems pretty interesting. I know at some other schools when they send you an email about an honors program they really want you in it, and you will likely get in if you apply. Is this the same for this program or are they just sending this email out to all or many of the students accepted to Weinberg?

They say the program is open to all Weinberg freshmen so I assume all accepted Weinberg students got the email. If you’re wondering about getting into the program, here’s something from the Kaplan page:

What do I have to do to apply?
All you have to do, if you are a WCAS student, is list “HUM 101: The Good Society1” as your top choice when you sign up for a freshman seminar in early July. (See below: How do I apply?) There is no application as such. Admission is then based on the student’s general application to Northwestern University.

If you’re planning to transfer to McCormick, you’re better off transferring before you get to the school. If you finish the scholars program and then transfer it may be nearly impossible to catch up with your core engineering requirements.

And yes, they email all of the incoming Weinberg freshmen that, and yes, it is selective.
