<p>I was supposed to attend a Kaplan SAT prep course starting this Sunday, and I just got a call from the centre saying that it got cancelled because of "lack of instructor availability."
Well, I'm not writing this to complain; I just want to know if the cancellation of this course - and not studying with the "Kaplan methods" will affect my score badly :(
I've been studying by myself, and I realized that maybe it'll help my scores to increase (now it ranges from 1900-2100... I'm aiming at 2200-2300+) if I had a teacher/instructor of some sort to guide me through some tough and tricky questions.</p>
<p>Kaplan's call said that there's another course that I can take instead of the one that just got cancelled, but it kind of overlaps with my job & volunteering.</p>
<p>So... what I wanted to ask was: is it worth it to give up my job and volunteering to take this alternative Kaplan course offered? Or should I just continue studying by myself (because... yeah. Some people say that it's really not helpful.)</p>

<p>No, it is in no way worth it to quit your job.</p>
<p>I’m taking the Princeton Review course, and it sucks. Not worth the money at all. Keep on studying yourself, with the proper motivation, you’ll be in your target range. Just keep practicing.</p>

Not only are the course materials terrible but also is the preparation before teaching stupid.
Instructors at Kaplan have to watch a dull 8 hour video and study from it.</p>
<p>i hope you know all you’re doing is paying money just so they can reteach the material that’s in their coursebook which you can buy for $20 at barnes and noble.</p>
<p>The only good thing about prep courses is that they MAY motivate students.
When I was taking the highest class at PR, I memorized 300-350 words every day for weeks. I am too lazy to do that when I don’t take prep courses. But yeah, the courses themselves will literally increase your score by 0-30 points unless your score is in 1500s.</p>
<p>^Well, I didn’t only learn words. I took two practice tests and reviewed the answers everyday. Also, my starting score for CR was 400. I started learning ABCs in 5th grade so vocabulary was quite a problem at that time.</p>
<p>Ahh… so I assume that most of you are against it, rather? (as in, the course wouldn’t increase my score dramatically, anyway.)
