Which is better?

I've heard alot about Princeton Review for Lit but I briefly flipped through both at the bookstore and from the outline, Kaplan seemed to go into more depth imo but now that I read it its kind of fluff. Any opinions?

Also for those who have used kaplan, how accurate were the practice tests?
I've heard that Kaplan has the reputation of being slightly easier for the SAT I books. True?

Thanks

I used kaplan and it wasnt all that great. the practice tests are alright, but the book is somewhat light on review. ive heard good things about barrons though.

Barron's is great, unless you only want a light review, in which case probably get Kaplan.

yeah i was going to self study for lit(something i dont recommend) and unfortunately kaplan is the wrong book for that, as it is light on review. it does have a lot of practice tests though, though barrons does as well i think

Thanks demons & lolcats I'll probably get barrons for review

any idea how accurate the scores from the kaplan practice tests are?

they are somewhat accurate; i was getting between 680-720 on practice tests, and got a 670 on the real thing.

thanks demons!

i'm getting like 640-730 (untimed) i'm in for a disaster :(

I think Kaplan's scores are extremely accurate. Nearing the test date, my practice tests came up with 780s, and that was my exact score on the actual test.

I started out with 710s, so you can push the score up by quite a bit if you practice a lot.

I don't think the review sections are very useful. Just skim them to get the basic idea and some pointers about taking the particular test. Maybe literary devices can be helpful, but that's only if you don't know most of the terms. The hard part (and the bulk of the test) is analysis, but if you know the devices, you're much more prepared to decipher crazy poems and dramatic pieces and what have you.

this doesn't relate to your question, but do you guys have any advice on taking the test?

(I actually started a new thread about this, but then I saw this thread.. so I might as well add on, ha.. my thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-subject-tests-preparation/545701-sat-ii-literature.html)

After going through a lot of reviews I felt Kaplan 12 real SAT tests was the closest book on comparing with the official SAT guide. And that is true...I even went through the 11 SAT tests from Princeton Review...which either had very easier questions or questions which were not even there at GRE level

thank you Lu Jinny and bharadwaj!!
and Lu Jinny congrats on such a high score :)
