Hey guys, I'm a sophomore transfer student and was put in a single (my first choice) in Kay Hall with freshmen (because of limited space on West Campus). I was kind of annoyed at first obviously because I wasn't put with other transfers but after visiting last week and seeing Kay Hall, I was more than impressed (with the building itself and the fact that it's so close to my classes - of all which are on the Ag Quad or Baker Laboratory). I've been talking to the head of res life via e-mail and she mentioned that there are some rooms available in Schuyler House. I'm sort of torn because I could a) be with other transfers while being secluded from the larger Cornell community to an extent, 20+ minutes from my classes or b) be with freshmen in one of the nicest dorms on campus within close proximity to all of my classes. What do you guys think?

If you stayed on north you would still be around a lot of transfers and upperclassmen…and ckb is a really nice dorm. Honestly I liked north campus a lot…hence the reason im staying there. I think it would be better to stay in Kay Hall

If you go to Schuyler, I’d probably take that single in Kay off your hands. Haha.

from the way you put it, kay seems better than schuyler in every way except that you have to be with freshmen (and are we freshmen that bad? haha)

haha, no not at all … the problem is that I’d also like to make friends with other transfers/people from my class without having to completely go out of my way … there definitely are pros about living on North Campus though (the main one being that everyone is trying to make friends whereas if I lived on West, cliques are mostly already formed)

i’d rather go out of my way to make friends than go out of my way to even get on campus

this…

you will have appel dining right there too

oh and the appel coffee/bubble tea shop :)

Kay definitely has the edge on surrounding amenities. Schuyler house really isn’t near anything - about halfway up the hill between downtown and c-town, so no matter where you go it will involve a hell of a hill hike. Kay has two gyms nearby, food (no comment on quality) available at nearly all hours of the day, limited hilliness. . . . Oh, and schuyler is the old Cornell hospital, so it might well be haunted

plus you’re only a year older than freshmen, and it should be fairly easy to make friends in a freshman dorm since they also are coming in not knowing anyone, so you’re on equal footing in that sense. There should be other opportunities to spend time with other transfer students, I’m fairly certain there is some transfer specific programming besides just the existence of schuyler.

You’ll make plenty of friends in class and around campus.

A single in CKB-Mews is probably the most sought after housing assignment on campus (to freshman atleast).

Enjoy life man.

I have a single in Schuyler on the first floor. If you’re interested in a direct trade, pm me.

I think it would be wise to stay put. Unlike being a freshman in a sophmore dorm, the friends you make will be there through your entire college experience.

Additionally, you’ll see people that are more your age in your classes and other activities.
