I'm applying for spring transfer and I wanted to know if anyone has some insight on it, particularly about dorm choices. Someone on Facebook from Cornell's Transfer Committee something or other said that as a spring entrant, I might actually have more choices/preference for my dorm because so many students study abroad/switch rooms/etc.

Is there truth to that? I'd really just love to be on West Campus that first semester and not get stuck in Schuyler House or away up on North.

I saw most transfers didn't even get the roommate they requested which to me does NOT make sense, since kids who wanted singles got doubles, kids who wanted doubles w/ a roommate got singles...it's weird.

I had never heard of the Schuyler house until you mentioned it so I had to look it up. Up until 2007 all transfer lived in the Transfer Center which was knocked down that year. Then the next two years transfers lived on West Campus. I guess if most transfer are living in Schuyler then that’s not bad. I think it’s pretty messed up for Cornell to put transfers so far away. You’re essentially at the very bottom of Collegetown where no one goes and you have a pretty decent walk up hill to class. But if you’re coming in the Spring then I would recommend trying to live on North in a Freshman dorm. Im not sure what year you are but if you’re a freshman/sophomore then living on North should be fine. You’ll also come right at beginning of rush week so you can do rush and join a house and make friends very quickly.

Or you can live on West with other transfers. Schuyler just seems too far for me.
